Itinerary

Tour Itinerary

Breathtaking beauty and fun experiences sum up this Glacier National Park, Hells Canyon & Washington Wine Country tour with an Alaska cruise. Your tour begins and ends in Seattle with overnights along the way in Washington Wine Country, Lewiston, Coeur d’Alene, Whitefish, and Spokane. A tour highlight is stunning Glacier National Park with its pristine forests, rugged mountains, alpine meadows, and gorgeous lakes. You’ll board a vintage 1930s red Jammer bus and drive along the Going-to-the-Sun Road, one of North America’s most spectacular roadways. Hugging the mountainside, you’ll witness breathtaking scenery along the way. Words and photos cannot capture the beauty—you must witness it in person! More scenic beauty awaits you in Coeur d’Alene, where you’ll enjoy a scenic cruise on the picturesque lake; in Mount Rainier National Park, where you’ll witness breathtaking views of its 14,000-foot peak; and in Hells Canyon, North America’s deepest river gorge. With more than 200,000 acres of high mountain peaks, ominous canyon rim-rocks, breathtaking vistas, and incredible wildlife, Hells Canyon is nothing short of spectacular! Here, you’ll enjoy a cruise as well as a BBQ lunch along the river—a special experience offered by Globus. But that’s not all…you’ll also witness breathtaking scenery on your 7-night Alaska cruise. Marvel at the slabs of ice breaking off into the sea and enjoy visits to Juneau, Sitka, Ketchikan, and Victoria. Other unique experiences Globus offers on this Glacier National Park, Hells Canyon & Washington Wine Country tour are a tour and tasting at a winery in Washington’s Wine Country and a cowboy sing-along and old-fashioned ranch BBQ in Whitefish. This is just a sampling of the many highlights offered on this tour through Glacier National Park, Hells Canyon and Washington’s Wine Country—with an Alaska cruise.

Day 1: ARRIVE IN SEATTLE.
Welcome to Seattle! At 6 pm, meet your traveling companions for a welcome drink. Your Tour Director will prepare you for your upcoming adventure.

Day 2: SEATTLE–MOUNT RAINIER NATIONAL PARK–WASHINGTON WINE COUNTRY.
This morning, visit MOUNT RAINIER NATIONAL PARK for breathtaking views of its 14,000-foot peak. Arrive in Washington’s wine country and visit a [LF] WINERY for a dinner paired with tastings. (B,D)

Day 3: WASHINGTON WINE COUNTRY–LEWISTON. EXCURSION TO HELLS CANYON.
Cross into Idaho and travel along the Snake River on the same route as Lewis & Clark. Today brings a scenic JETBOAT ride into Hells Canyon, home to North America’s deepest river gorge. Hugging the borders of Oregon and Idaho, Hells Canyon is more than 200,000 acres of high mountain peaks, ominous canyon rim-rocks, and breathtaking vistas. See ancient petroglyphs left by the Nez Perce Indians and enjoy your captain’s folklore tales. Watch for deer and bighorn sheep, then enjoy a [LF] BARBECUE LUNCH along the river, where you can enjoy the magnificent surroundings. (B,L)

Day 4: LEWISTON–COEUR D’ALENE.
This morning, visit NEZ PERCE NATIONAL HISTORIC PARK and learn about the people who have called this home since the beginning of time. Continue to the beautiful shores of Lake Coeur d’Alene, where you’ll enjoy a sightseeing CRUISE. Tonight, why not explore the quaint downtown area of Coeur d’Alene with its shops, restaurants, and galleries? (B)

Day 5: COEUR D’ALENE–WALLACE–WHITEFISH.
Depart Coeur d’Alene and stop in Wallace and tour the SIERRA SILVER MINE, where you’ll travel underground with an experienced miner and learn the history of mining in this region. Continue your travel today along the spectacular shores of Flathead Lake to Whitefish for a 3-night stay. Before arriving at your resort, enjoy a guided tour of the CONRAD MANSION, which explores the historic elegance of a bygone era. (B)

Day 6: WHITEFISH. EXCURSION TO GLACIER NATIONAL PARK.
Today, explore the wonders of GLACIER NATIONAL PARK. Board the vintage RED JAMMER buses that take you along one of North America’s most spectacular highways: Going-to-the-Sun Road. After crossing 6,664-foot-high Logan Pass, enter a wonderland of alpine scenery, where jagged mountain peaks, deep-green forests, pristine lakes, and meadows dominate the landscape. Stay alert for the fabled mountain goats that reside on the high cliffs above. This evening, enjoy a cowboy sing-along and an old-fashioned [LF] WESTERN RANCH BARBECUE. (B,D)

NOTE:
The visit to Logan Pass is normally possible from mid-June to mid-September. If unable to travel to Logan Pass, alternative sightseeing by Red Jammer bus will be done.

Day 7: WHITEFISH.
Today, enjoy a morning at leisure. Perhaps join an optional scenic float excursion down the Flathead River or take the gondola to the top of Whitefish Mountain for fantastic views and photo opportunities. The rest of the afternoon is free to explore on your own. Maybe play a round of golf, browse the art galleries and boutiques, or just relax at your resort. (B)

Day 8: WHITEFISH–SANDPOINT–SPOKANE.
Today, stop in pretty Sandpoint, where there’s time to browse the boutiques and galleries. Travel along the scenic Pend Oreille River into Washington. End the day with sightseeing of Spokane, including Manito Park Gardens. This evening is at leisure. You may wish to walk along the banks of the Spokane River or ride the Gondola SkyRide over some of the area’s waterfalls. (B)

Day 9: SPOKANE–LEAVENWORTH–SEATTLE
. Depart Spokane and stop in the Bavarian village of Leavenworth, where there’s time to stroll the charming streets of town to shop or sample local fare. Arrive in Seattle later this afternoon. This evening, toast new friends at a festive farewell dinner at a local restaurant. (B,D)

Day 10: SEATTLE (EMBARKATION).
Embark Holland America’s MS Eurodam to begin your cruise. (B,D)

Day 11: CRUISING.

Day 12: JUNEAU.
Visit one of the most remote capital cities—Juneau. Accessible only by air and water, Juneau is located at the base of two towering mountains in the heart of Alaska’s Inside Passage, and is home to a rich Gold Rush history, Native culture, wildlife, and a wealth of natural wonders. Shop for gold nuggets, visit the stately Governor’s Mansion, saunter through the swinging doors of the historic Red Dog Saloon, or visit mighty Mendenhall Glacier, an impressive river of ice that is 12 miles long and 1.5 miles wide. (B,L,D)

Day 13: SCENIC CRUISING: GLACIER BAY NATIONAL PARK.
This Biosphere Reserve and UNESCO World Heritage Site protects a unique ecosystem in an ever-changing glacial landscape. Witness the spectacle of thunder and flying spray as huge slabs of ice break off and “calve” into the sea—making for lasting memories. National Park rangers accompany the ship, adding expert commentary to the day’s events. (B,L,D)

Day 14: SITKA.
Step back in time in the charming port of Sitka, which reigned as the capital of Russian America for 100 years. Experience “life under the czars” with majestic onion-domed St. Michael’s Cathedral, the Sheldon Jackson Museum (housing prized Russian and Indian artifacts), and a lively performance by the New Archangel Dancers. (B,L,D)

Day 15: KETCHIKAN.
Experience Native Alaska firsthand. Meet the spirits of the raven, whale, and eagle as you view the largest collection of totems in the world at Saxman Totem Park or Totem Bight State Historic Park. Or, explore Creek Street, now home to contemporary art galleries and quaint boutiques. (B,L,D)

I didn't feel that the winery tour and 2 boat rides weren't really necessary. The stops at Mt. Rainier, the NezPerc Historical Center deserved more time. I was really disappointed that we couldn't see more of Glacier Natioal Park. I realize the fire hampered visiting the park since some of the roads were closed going into the park. Seeing the park was what attracted me to this tour and since we couldn't see much of it, I was very disappointed.

Disappointed in the low quality hotels (other than the Sheraton). Also didn't allow enough time in salt creek, or Leavenworth.

This is our third tour with Globus, and we were extremely pleased with our guide,Al, who is so organized, friendly, and informative, and Lynn, our driver, who did a wonderful job accommodating the passengers. We enjoyed the routes that were taken on the tour as they provided us with a true look at Washington, Idaho, and Montana. We do, however, feel that the tour needs to include at least one night in Seattle or Spokane instead of three nights at the Grouse Mountain Lodge in Whitefish, Montana. Our reason is there isn't that much to do at Whitefish, and another night in Seattle or Spokane would give people time to see more of these beautiful cities.

THE TOUR DIRECTOR WAS RATHER GOOFY AND DID NOT ALWAYS LOOK OUT FOR OUR BEST INTERESTS BUT THE GLOBUS ASPECT WAS FINE. I WOULD NOT WANT THIS TOUR DIRECTOR AGAIN. THE HOTELS & MEALS WERE VERY GOOD.

We truly enjoyed our trip to Glacier National Park and Hell's Canyon tour!!! Our trip was a little dampened by the smoky haze, due to all the wildfires going on in the Northwest. We are really concerned for all the firefighters and local folks dealing with these fires! However, our terrific tour guide and our safe and courteous driver went above and beyond to give us all the best experience possible.

One of the best trips we have taken.
