New England is steeped in history and known for its amazing fall foliage, and on this fall foliage tour you’ll have a chance to experience the spectacular beauty and historic places. A sightseeing tour in Boston highlights landmarks that were pivotal to the United States’ history, and a visit to Cornelius Vanderbilt’s mansion, The Breakers, gives you a taste for life in a bygone era. History is not all you’ll experience on this marvelous fall foliage tour. You’ll also see spectacular beauty and amazing fall foliage. In Maine, visit Acadia National Park, one of America’s most visited national parks and the first place in the United States to see the sunrise, where you’ll enjoy a local culinary delight at the historic waterfront Asticou Inn—a special experience offered by Globus. In New Hampshire, travel to the scenic White Mountains, New England’s greatest range and premier outdoor playground, and enjoy the Raven Interpretive Program. Take a beautiful drive through Franconia Notch, a New Hampshire region with breathtaking scenery, and along the Kancamagus Highway, well known as one of the country’s best fall foliage viewing areas. Throughout your tour, marvel at the scenic drives and stunning fall colors full of blazing red, orange, and yellow leaves (if Mother Nature permits). In addition to the Raven Interpretive Program and the Asticou Inn culinary delight near Acadia National Park, Globus has included some other fun experiences on this fall foliage tour. Enjoy a Colonial-style dinner at the historic Salem Cross Inn near Sturbridge and a lobster bake in the seaside town of Bar Harbor. With the gorgeous scenery, interesting historic sights, and fun adventures, it’s a vacation not to be missed!

Welcome to “Beantown!” At 6 pm, meet your traveling companions for a welcome drink. Your Tour Director will prepare you for your upcoming adventure.

Day 2: BOSTON–PORTLAND–BAR HARBOR.
Head north via New Hampshire’s short shoreline and along Maine’s rocky coast to Portland, one of New England’s most famous cities. Stroll down the cobblestone streets of Portland’s famous Old Port Exchange, lined with its many boutiques, coffee houses, and art galleries. The next two nights are in Bar Harbor on Mount Desert Island, Maine’s oldest summer resort. Dinner tonight is a traditional [LF] LOBSTER BAKE, featuring Maine lobster, steamed mussels, and delicious corn-on-the-cob. (B,D)

Day 3: BAR HARBOR. EXCURSION TO ACADIA NATIONAL PARK.

During your visit, take the scenic park road for spectacular panoramas from the summit of Cadillac Mountain, the first place in the continental U.S. to see the sunrise each day. Then, travel to the historic Asticou Inn, overlooking the picturesque waters of Northeast Harbor for a local [LF] TREAT, a freshly made popover (pastry) and seafood chowder. Later, return to Bar Harbor for a free evening. Perhaps a leisurely stroll around the waterfront with its many galleries and boutiques. (B)

Day 4: BAR HARBOR–NORTH CONWAY.
Back to the mainland and west through Maine for vistas of sparkling lakes and forests. Next, visit BILLINGS FARM & MUSEUM, a living museum of Vermont’s rural past and working dairy farm. Enjoy a delicious, locally-made ice cream cone during your visit. (B,D)

Day 6: KILLINGTON–STOCKBRIDGE–STURBRIDGE.
Journey south to Stockbridge in the Berkshire Mountains for a visit to the NORMAN ROCKWELL STUDIO & MUSEUM, housing a large collection of works by one of America’s favorite artists. Be sure to save room for the freshly whipped cream—the perfect complement to New England’s best apple pie. (B,D)

Day 7: STURBRIDGE–MYSTIC SEAPORT–NEWPORT.
This morning, visit MYSTIC SEAPORT, a living history museum showcasing the many activities that might have occurred in a New England coastal village in the 1800s. Enjoy a CRUISE of the historic Mystic River aboard the Sabino Steamboat, the oldest wooden, coal-fired steamboat operating since 1908. On to Rhode Island, the “Ocean State.” (B)

Day 8: NEWPORT.
Today, enjoy a Newport orientation tour and see the first state house, the nation’s oldest synagogue, and the St. Mary’s Church, Afterward, explore the extravagant lifestyle of a bygone era when visiting THE BREAKERS, shipping magnate Cornelius Vanderbilt’s turn-of-the-century mansion. This evening, your Tour Director hosts a special farewell dinner at a waterfront restaurant. (B,D)

Questions & Answers

Question: How many seats on the bus, what is the seating configuration?

Globus tour coaches can seat 51 guests but usually travel with an average guest count of 38 to 44. Seating arrangements are on a daily rotation and assigned by the tour director.

Question: We are staying three days in Boston prior to the scheduled tour. Can we transfer our luggage from our hotel to the Sheraton Boston Hotel earlier in the day of Oct. 2?

Unfortunately in this scenario you'll be responsible for your own transfers and luggage.

Question: The carry-on bag size from my previous question is smaller than most women's purses. Is the answer correct?

Yes the carry-on size for a motor coach is much smaller than a standard carry-on allowed on a plane. This is because they have no overhead bin and the storage space underneath the motor coach is limited.

Question: What are the size limitations for the carry on bag on the motor coach?

Due to limited coach capacity, your bag should have dimensions not exceeding 30"x21"x11" (62" linear dimensions) or weight exceeding 50 lbs. Carry-on bags should not exceed the dimensions of 12"x11"x6"

Question: What time is most optimal to see fall foliage in Acadia?

The best part about the Classic Fall Foliage tour with Globus is that all of the dates between September and October are fantastic times to see the fall foliage.

Question: How much walking will there be on the tour? Would the walking be classified as easy, moderate or difficult?

This tour could be classified as moderately paced. There will be walking through country landscapes like Acadia National Park and a dairy farm, but nothing too difficult or strenuous. Plan on walking for at least 2 hours on some days.

Question: How many suitcases can I take with me on my trip?

Each person is allowed one "check-in," and one "carry-on." Remember to take all valuables with you as "carry-on", because electronic equipment, cameras, laptops, jewelry, business documents and money are not covered by the airlines' liability, so always carry them aboard with you.

Question: Is Airfare Included in the Price?

Airfare from your point of origin to and from the trip is not included in the land price.

Two hotel/motels were not satisfactory. The bus was not satisfactory. The breakfasts were okay but so inferior compared to all four European trips we've taken (So, another unsatisfactory). For a eight day trip, at least two Dinners should offer more wine

Our Globus tour guide, Jackie, was the best - very organized and helpful

The tour was kind of rush, most of the time we have to leave the hotel at 8:00am, and we didn't have enough time to enjoy the environment e.g. Killington Grand Resort Hotel.

This was a great trip. Our guide was excellent. Our driver was super. We saw many beautiful fall colors along with visiting many interesting places.

Excellent tour. The tour guide is very knowleadgable and personable. The driver is excellent.

Loved the trip...the restaurants were good...the lodging was good, but not great. A couple were showing their age. I asked for one queen bed but had two doubles for most of the trip.

We were fortunate to have a vacation full of glorious weather and we learned during our tour that each year the news/weather stations provide TV updates on the status of peak fall foliage color. We picked the best timeframe; by chance, and were in the peak of beautiful foliage. The added bonuses to this trip for us was the amazing historic architecture and we loved looking as far as the eye could see and seeing many beautiful historic church steeples. The food in New England is wonderful. The weather was great. We met many new people and created some special friendships along the way. The tour director and bus driver did an outstanding job of explaining locations and historic significance; and provided excellent and comfortable transportation. He was great!

The accommodations were especially nice.

I just wish that you would pay your tour director and driver more so that we are not expected to tip so highly. Most of the people who take bus trips are not wealthy and for a couple to come up with a minimum of $200 is difficult especially since the tour cost over $4000 with air fare. The director and the driver are worth a lot because they are so fantastic at what they do.

This was a great trip with a wonderful guide and bus driver. We saw some great fall colors although we were about a week ahead of the peak color.

Great tour director and bus driver. hotels were excellent

Enjoyed the services very much. Thanks.

Loved the NE Fall Foliage Tour, even though the colors were a bit muted this year due to the weather. Our tour director was knowledgeable and organized and our coach driver was helpful and courteous. This trip offered many stops along the drive through all five NE states to take in scenic views and interesting pieces of NE culture.

We had a lovely trip to new England for the fall foliage.
