Explore the beauty of South America during this exhilarating vacation to Brazil, Argentina, Peru, and the Galápagos Islands. Visit its cosmopolitan and lively cities as well as its ancient treasures and scenic highlights. Start in Rio de Janeiro, a vibrant, bustling city known for its beautiful beaches and beautiful people. The birthplace of Samba, Rio’s vitality comes alive as you experience its sights, sounds, and flavors. In Lima, your sightseeing focuses on its rich colonial history and includes a visit to the Larco Herrera Museum, which has a large collection of pre-Columbian Peruvian art. Buenos Aires is regarded as the “Paris of South America” with its chic shopping, French architecture, outdoor cafés, legendary nightlife, and cosmopolitan cuisine. It is famous for its sensuous Tango dance, and you’ll see a Tango show—you’ll even get a Tango dance lesson on your Globus tour! Be amazed as you view the spectacular panoramic views of many of the 275 cataracts that make up Iguassu Falls—with its clouds of spray, incessant roar, and surrounding tropical growth. Of course, no vacation to South America is complete without a visit to the marvelous structures built by the Incas, including the semi-circular Kenko Amphitheater and Puca Pucara. You’ll visit Machu Picchu, where you’ll stand in awe as you witness the ancient ruins surrounded by soaring peaks—one of the most majestic images in South America! But that’s not all…experience an once-in-a-lifetime thrill in the Galápagos Islands. Just like Charles Darwin, you’ll be able to see many species of animals and birds that call the Galápagos their home. On your 3-night cruise, watch for blue-footed boobies, frigatebirds, sea lions, marine iguanas, giant tortoises, and more. For even more fun, consider swimming and snorkeling in search of sea life. Vibrant cities, spectacular scenery, and ancient structures—this vacation to South America has it all!
Day 1: ARRIVE IN RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL.
Welcome to South America’s largest and most populous country. This afternoon, meet your Tour Director and fellow traveling companions for a drive along famous Ipanema and Copacabana Beaches to the base of 1,300-foot-high SUGAR LOAF MOUNTAIN. Ascend by cable car to its summit, where you can savor spectacular vistas of the city. Next, [LF] toast the start of a memorable vacation with caipirinhas, a favorite Brazilian cocktail, from atop Sugar Loaf Mountain during a COCKTAIL PARTY.
Day 2: RIO DE JANEIRO.
The city’s landmark, the statue of Christ the Redeemer, crowns CORCOVADO MOUNTAIN, a rounded peak rising 2,300 feet from the bay below. A scenic ride by cog railway leads to the top, where a breathtaking 360-degree panorama affords sweeping views. From here, proceed to bustling downtown Rio, where modern office towers stand next to relics of the Portuguese colonial past. View the Sambodromo and visit the CATHEDRAL. The afternoon is at leisure for you to experience this vibrant city on your own. Tonight, it’s a fun outing to a CHURRASCARIA for a feast of barbecued meats marinated and roasted over charcoal in true Brazilian style. (B,D)
Day 3: RIO DE JANEIRO.
A full day at leisure to savor Rio. Relax on one of the world-famous beaches or take advantage of the world-class shopping or fine dining. Alternatively, you may choose to join an optional trip to historic Petropolis, a mountain resort and the former summer palace of Emperor Dom Pedro II. (B)
Day 4: RIO DE JANEIRO–BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA
. Fly to Buenos Aires, proud capital of the vast country that occupies most of the southern part of the continent. After arriving at your central hotel, an orientation walk acquaints you with the “Paris of South America” and its wide boulevards and outdoor cafés. Spend an evening at leisure. (B)
Day 5: BUENOS AIRES
. Your included sightseeing this morning starts in La Boca, a colorful district and site of the city’s first port. Take a short walking TOUR of this unique neighborhood at the mouth of the river and then on to San Telmo, famous for its late-colonial buildings and as a popular gathering spot for artists. At the Plaza de Mayo, see La Casa Rosada (the President’s Pink House) and the METROPOLITAN CATHEDRAL, which houses San Martin’s Mausoleum. Drive past the ornate Teatro Colón opera house before reaching RECOLETA CEMETERY, burial site of Eva Perón. After an afternoon at leisure, top off the evening at a famous TANGO CLUB. Start with a [LF] DANCE LESSON, followed by dinner of Argentine steaks and other local specialties, and end with a show featuring flawless performances of Latin America’s most sensuous dance—the Tango! (B,D)
Day 6: BUENOS AIRES
. Enjoy a full day at leisure, with an optional excursion to the pampas (grasslands). Experience the atmosphere of Argentine country life as you visit an estancia (ranch). Get acquainted with the lifestyle of the gauchos and enjoy a barbecue lunch and the warm hospitality of your hosts before returning to the city. (B)
Day 7: BUENOS AIRES–IGUASSU FALLS.
This morning, fly to IGUASSU FALLS. The spectacle of this 2-mile-wide torrent—with some cataracts as high as 250 feet—is nothing short of hypnotic. The clouds of spray, the incessant roar, and the surrounding luxuriant tropical growth make this an unforgettable natural wonder. Upon arrival, journey to the Argentinean side of the falls and take the ECOLOGICAL JUNGLE TRAIN for a bird’s-eye view from the catwalks perched over part of the Devil’s Throat, where 14 waterfalls drop more than 300 feet into the Devil’s Gorge below. Continue into Brazil’s side of Iguassu Falls, your home for the night. (B,D)
Day 8: IGUASSU FALLS–LIMA, PERU.
Today is dedicated to exploring the Brazilian side of IGUASSU FALLS from a completely different vantage point than in Argentina. A walk along the pathway at the base of the falls takes you into the Devil’s Throat Canyon, with spectacular panoramic views of many of the 275 cataracts that make up Iguassu Falls. Have a late lunch or early dinner before flying to Lima, Peru. (B,L)
Day 9: LIMA.
Your city sightseeing TOUR focuses on Lima’s rich colonial history as well as the modern city. See the 18th-century SAN FRANCISCO MONASTERY with its unique cloisters, Government Palace, and the cathedral situated around the vast Plaza de Armas. Tonight, visit the [LF] LARCO HERRERA MUSEUM, which houses the largest private collection of Pre-Columbian Peruvian art in the world. Enjoy dinner at the museum’s restaurant. (B,D)
Day 10: LIMA–CUSCO–SACRED VALLEY.
Fly to Cusco, the impressive Andean city that was once the capital of the Inca Empire. Head into the Sacred Valley of the Incas and visit the semi-circular KENKO AMPHITHEATER with its stone altars and labyrinth of passages, and see the ancient site of Puca Pucara. Also, in the Sacred Valley, experience an [LF] El Pago a la Tierra, or MOTHER EARTH CEREMONY, performed by a local shaman. These ceremonies thanking Mother Earth and asking for good health and safe travels have been practiced in Peru since before the arrival of the Incas. Continue to PISAC, an old mountain village where you will have free time to shop for local wares, such as alpaca sweaters and blankets, jewelry, or hand-painted ornamental dishes and vases. Stay in the Sacred Valley tonight, with dinner at the hotel. (B,D)
Day 11: SACRED VALLEY–MACHU PICCHU.
This morning, visit the Inca Fortress of OLLANTAYTAMBO, followed by the opportunity to visit a [LF] LOCAL HOME, meet some of the locals, and experience their way of life in the Sacred Valley. Then, board the VISTADOME TRAIN for a scenic journey through the lush Urubamba Valley. Upon arrival, ascend the mountainside to legendary MACHU PICCHU, the “Lost City of the Incas.” Your Local Guide will introduce this intact fortress with its temple remains, holy houses, and mile-long aqueduct, and will bring you closer to the mysteries still hidden in these amazing structures. Tonight, learn how to make the perfect Pisco Sour at a Peruvian cooking demonstration before your included dinner. (B,D)
Day 12: MACHU PICCHU–CUSCO.
A morning at leisure in Machu Picchu allows you to wake up early to see the sunrise over MACHU PICCHU with your second included entrance to the ruins. After lunch, return to the Sacred Valley by TRAIN RIDE and continue to Cusco. (B,L)
Day 13: CUSCO.
On your guided sightseeing tour of Cusco today, learn more about the Inca and Spanish influence. Begin at the heart of Cusco in the Plaza de Armas (main square), with a visit to the imposing CATHEDRAL, where construction began in 1550 and was finally completed 100 years later. Continue to Koricancha and the SANTO DOMINGO MONASTERY, and see how the two sites have become one. The Temple of the Sun at Koricancha was once the most important Inca site, dedicated to the worship of the Sun. The walls, altars, and decorations were all said to be covered in gold—until the Spaniards looted the temple and then built the contrasting Baroque Santo Domingo Monastery on top of the temple’s foundations. Also, visit the TEMPLE OF SACSAYHUAMAN, perched on a hillside overlooking Cusco. It remains unfathomable how and when this fortress of gigantic stones—with some blocks weighing more than 350 tons—was built. Enjoy an afternoon at leisure to explore on your own. This evening, your Tour Director hosts a festive farewell dinner at a local restaurant. (B,D)
Day 14: CUSCO–LIMA.
A short morning flight returns you to Lima. For a special treat, make a stop at a [LF] LOCAL PERUVIAN FOOD MARKET to get a real taste of the life of the local people. The remainder of the day is at leisure to explore on your own. (B)
Day 15: LIMA– QUITO, ECUADOR.
Fly to Quito, where the remainder of your day is at leisure. (B)
Day 16: QUITO.
On an included city tour, see INDEPENDENCE SQUARE with its CATHEDRAL and SAN FRANCISCO PLAZA CHURCH, and the BASILICA. (B)
Day 17: QUITO–SAN CRISTOBAL (EMBARKATION)–GALÁPAGOS CRUISING.

On SAN CRISTOBAL, visit the INTERPRETATION CENTER with your Naturalist and learn about what makes the archipelago so unique. Next, a walk to TIJERETAS HILL brings you to a frigatebird nesting colony. (B,L,D)
Day 18: CRUISING: ESPAÑOLA ISLAND.
Join your Naturalist for excursions to Gardner Bay and Punta Suárez on ESPAÑOLA ISLAND, one of the oldest islands in the archipelago. Here, you will see the famous blowhole, as well as unique sea bird colonies, including the waved albatrosses (April-December), Nazca and blue-footed boobies, and Darwin’s finches. Also, look for red, green, and black marine iguanas and a rookery of sea lions right at the landing site. (B,L,D)
Day 19: CRUISING: FLOREANA ISLAND.
Today on FLOREANA ISLAND, join your Naturalist for an excursion to Post Office Bay, where a wood barrel has served as an informal post office since 1793. Darwin’s finches, lava lizards, and green sea turtles can be found here. Later, at Cormorant Point, walk to the brackish lagoon, home to a large flamingo population. Snorkeling from the beach provides a great opportunity to see reef fish, sea turtles, sea lions, and even white-tipped reef sharks! Occasionally, a small colony of penguins can also be seen on this island. (B,L,D)
Day 20: CRUISING: SANTA CRUZ ISLAND.
Journey into the highlands of SANTA CRUZ to see giant tortoises, endemic to this island, roaming in the wild. Hygiene and Safety Protocols for Globus Tours
Today's world has changed, but what remains certain is Globus' commitment to guest safety, comfort and peace-of-mind while traveling with us. To that end, Globus has established a worldwide Assurance program, with enhanced on-trip protocols and procedures, to ensure the health – and happiness – of guests throughout their travels with us.
It all starts with Globus' Global Health & Safety Team, dedicated to ensuring that cleanliness of all operations exceeds today’s travel standards—from start to finish. The following areas address Globus' commitment to providing a safe and clean environment for guests.A SAFE & WARM WELCOME
Globus will enact new tour check-in procedures and pre-trip health screenings to offer guests a safe start to their journey, including adherence to social distancing requirements.BLENDING CULTURAL PROXIMITY WITH SOCIAL DISTANCE
Globus will ensure safe distances for guests throughout the journey, on coach and during excursions. This includes providing masks for guests use at any time where social proximity could be an issue as well as the possibility of reducing group sizes, if required. And wireless listening technology – including Globus' Go Beyond Devices in Europe – enables safe distances between guests and other travelers on excursions.FOCUS ON GUEST AND TEAM MEMBER HEALTH
To ensure a healthy environment for team and guests, Globus will conduct regular temperature checks for both guests and team, and when necessary, masks will be worn by Globus' team members when with guests.TOUCHING HEARTS, NOT HANDS
Traveling with Globus removes many of the “touch points” of travel, including luggage handling, check in/out, expedited entry into attractions and more. Globus are further reducing risk with hands-free service, meaning all self-services replaced by staff, including buffet meals replaced with table service. Globus will also ensure hand sanitizing is available throughout each trip, on coach and in hotels.COMMITMENT TO CLEAN
As a part of Globus' commitment to clean, Globus is requiring enhanced cleaning procedures with hotel partners, on motorcoaches, vehicles and throughout every trip, including additional daily disinfecting procedures that go above-and-beyond already strict health and safety procedures.PARTNERS IN DISCOVERY AND IN HEALTH
Globus has strict health and safety protocols, which have been in place for years, focused on ensuring all aspects of operation- from vehicles and equipment used on trip to excursions and hotel procedures. This process will continue with new, elevated health and safety checks, to maintain their promise that each touch-point on tours and cruises are considered in their commitment to guest and team member well-being.

Franz, our Tour Director from Globus and his tour guides did an exceptional job in organizing our every move. Their knowledge of the various points of interest, handling of travel requirements and complete flow of the tour, made this tour totally enjoyable and relaxing. Thanks! And thanks to Kenny for setting this tour together at Affordable Tours.
Our tour director, Paulo, was incredible....the best one I have ever had. The itinerary was perfect.
The Globus Spirit of South America itinerary is excellent, but the traveler should be aware that some internal flights depart early in the morning and the airlines require arrival 3 hours in advance. Adding to that is a typical 1 hour ride from the hotel to the airport. At the other end of the spectrum, some flights arrive at 10:00P.M. or 11:00P.M., so settling in to the hotel may not take place until 1:00A.M. Be advised that the Cusco, Sacred Valley, and Machu Picchu portion of the trip is strenuous and complicated by high altitude, non-stop sightseeing, and short hours of sleep. Physical endurance is a prerequisite! No accommodations for mobility disabilities.
This is my third tour with Globus. The travel experience was outstanding. Everything was taken care of from the pick-up transfer from the airport to the hotel and return. There was excellent hotel accommodations, knowledgeable local guides, and wonderful experiences throughtout the trips. Not only did I have a great group of travelers each time, last but not least, the tour director made sure that we have a great experience in each place we visited. I found out this was true in all my tours with Globus. In fact, many of my traveling companions have traveled with Globus seven or more times in the past. If you are looking for a guidled tour expereince, then I would highly recommend Globus. PS The South America tour, Brazil, Argentina and Peru was the best!!
The tour director, was fantastic. He made the trip even better than we expected.
Most of the trip was fantastic; however, I would like to suggest the following for future tours: 1. During orientation, each member of the group should be encouraged to speak their name, say where they are from, and possibly what their occupation is or was. This will help members getting to know each other. 2. During high altitude destinations where hydration is so important, I would recommend providing 2 bottles of water per day...one in the AM and one in the PM. There were several days that we did not get water at all and had to buy it. 3. Because of the numerous changes in local guides and bus drivers, I would like to see the price of the tour include tips to these people. The tour director should be our one and only responsibility.
Globus could improve on the fairwell dinner. We will rate that poor with no privacy to say good bye to all our new friends. Unfortunately luggage did not arrive to Lima with all of us, the local Globus personals were rather poor on how the airport work, it is a pity. REALLY NEED TO IMPROVE!!! Also we will say the transfer is very poor too!
I do not think I will take Globus again, because they are becoming too commercial.
The room at the Hyde Park Hotel in London was definitely what I would expect at a 4-star location. It was an old facility and the bathroom was so small that it was impossible to put any personal toiletries in the washroom. Would strongly recommend that another, more upgraded hotel be used. Also, the hotel in Dublin was great but located far from the City Center. Using it as a home base for resting or dropping off shopping packages was out of the question since it was so far from the main areas of city activity.
