Day 1: Arrive Amman, Jordan

Arrive in Amman, where you are met by an A&Krepresentative and privately transferred to your hotel at theDead Sea.

Day 2: Aqaba

Proceed to Mount Nebo, where Moses is said to have seenthe Promised Land he would never enter. Just beyond,Madaba — the “City of Mosaics” — reveals the oldestpreserved mosaic map of the Holy Land. Composed of twomillion pieces of colored stone, it informed scholars aboutJerusalem’s layout after its destruction and rebuilding in AD70. Continue to Aqaba and check in to your hotel. Tonight,sit down to a special welcome dinner at the Royal Yacht Club.

Day 3: Wadi Rum

After a morning at leisure in Aqaba, travel to Wadi Rum— the “Valley of the Moon” — which you explore by 4x4,traversing rose-tinted vistas and visiting a place whereLawrence of Arabia once lived. Tonight, dine beneathtwinkling desert skies before returning to your hotel.

Day 4: Petra

Explore the once-thriving capital of Petra, a stunning citycarved from the mountains around it. Pass through the Siq,the main entrance to the ancient city, to view the majesticTreasury, Temple of the Winged Lions and Palace Tomb. Eatlunch within the city of Petra before driving to your hotel bythe Dead Sea.

Day 5: The Dead Sea

This morning, enjoy one of these Design Your Day options.

Explore Third-Century Jerash, the “Pompeii of theMiddle East,” with its well-preserved Roman ruins.

Tour Amman, visiting its historic downtown, the Citadel, asmall Byzantine basilica and the Great Temple of Amman.

Visit Bethany Beyond the Jordan, on the eastern bank ofthe Jordan River, known as the baptism site of Jesus.

Later, enjoy time at leisure, free to take an afternoon dip inthe restorative waters of the Dead Sea.

Day 6: Cairo, Egypt

Transfer to the airport and fly to Cairo, Egypt’s bustlingcapital city. This afternoon, visit the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities (or the Grand Egyptian Museum, upon itsopening), home to the largest collection of ancient Egyptianartifacts, including treasures from Tutankhamun and itemsdating to 4000 BC. Your visit will also include the famedMummy Room, featuring the remains of ancient Egypt’spharaohs and nobility, such as Ramses II, one of Egypt’smost powerful pharaohs.

Day 7: Luxor

Transfer to the airport and fly to Luxor, where you board ‘Sanctuary Zein Nile Chateau.’ Embark on a three-nightcruise where you will discover the Nile’s significant impacton ancient Egyptian civilization. After lunch on board, visitthe striking Temple of Luxor. Along the front of the templepylons, there were six large statues of Ramses II (of whichthree remain), while behind the East Tower is the Courtyardof Ramses II. Marvel at the Colonnade of Amenhotep III,which consists of 14 papyrus-headed columns, leading to theCourt of Amenhotep III. Enjoy a welcome cocktail, followedby dinner.

Days 8-9: Nile Cruise

Discover the Valley of the Kings, the legendary burial groundof the pharaohs, including entrance into the tomb of “theboy king,” Tutankhamun. Journey to the Temple of Karnak,where generations of pharaohs wished to record their names.Walk through the Great Hypostyle Hall with its expertlyaligned columns, a sight to behold. Continue cruising toEdfu and the Temple of Horus, the falcon-headed god. Builtin 230 BC by Ptolemy III, and spending much of the modernera buried in sand and debris, this stunningly well-preservedand colorful structure reveals what temple worship inancient Egypt was like.

Day 10: Aswan

Disembark in Aswan and ride a motorized boat to PhilaeTemple on the island of Agilika, painstakingly moved andreconstructed here to avoid flood damage from Aswan’sHigh Dam. Afterward, continue to the impressive granitequarries and site of the Unfinished Obelisk, thought to havebelonged to Queen Hatshepsut or Queen Nefertiti. Arrive atyour historic luxury hotel. Dating back to 1899, the propertywas built by Thomas Cook to house European travellers, among them Sir Winston Churchill; Margaret Thatcher; andAgatha Christie, whose novel, Death on the Nile, was set atthis Victorian palace. This evening, sit down to dinner at thefamed 1902 French restaurant.

Day 11: Aswan

Pay a morning visit to the Nubian Museum to see its vastcollection of artifacts that showcase Nubian history, art andculture. Enjoy time at leisure. Then, in the late afternoon,board a felucca and cruise around Elephantine Island, seeingLord Kitchener’s Botanical Gardens and the Agha KhanMausoleum.

Day 12: Abu Simbel & Cairo

Fly to Abu Simbel and discover the commanding twin templesof Ramses II — Egypt’s longest-ruling pharaoh — and hiswife, Queen Nefertari. The entire site was disassembled andmoved to its present location to save it from the floodwaters ofthe Aswan High Dam. Return to the airport and fly to Cairovia Aswan. Check in to your hotel and spend the remainderof the day at leisure.

Day 13: Cairo

This morning, join your Egyptologist and discover thepyramids built for Cheops, Chephren and Mycerinus on theGiza Plateau. Continue to the Solar Boat Museum, whichhouses the funerary boat of King Cheops. Then, riding camelback, take in the panorama of the Giza Plateau, where thesoaring pyramids rise from the sands. Also see the fabledGreat Sphinx, a monumental limestone statue. Next, visitthe ancient capital of Memphis, the city of Menes, as well as the necropolis of Sakkara, site of the storied Step Pyramidof King Djoser and the oldest-known Egyptian pyramid.Tonight, toast to your travels with fellow guests at a specialfarewell dinner hosted by Abercrombie & Kent.
