Tour Itinerary

Begin at the "End of the World" in Ushuaia on the island of Tierra del Fuego in Argentina for this amazing voyage to Antarctica. Enjoy a day to explore this former outpost and penal colony of Ushuaia—now a thriving center of fishing and timber industries. Perhaps venture to nearby Tierra del Fuego National Park to see its dramatic scenery and wildlife with the Chilean Andes as its spectacular backdrop. Embark on the Ocean Atlantic ship for a 9-night cruise bound for the South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula. Navigate the Beagle Channel with your expedition staff, sailing for the next two days across the Drake Passage, where the cold Antarctic intersects with the warm Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Your expert team of naturalists sail with you to share enlightening insights on the incredible natural world surrounding your journey. As you approach the South Pole, you're likely to spot seals, whales, and penguins before making a zodiac landing on shore (weather permitting). Next, spend two days cruising the South Shetland Islands of King George, Deception, and Half Moon where you will find a magnificent natural world of elephant, weddell, and leopard seals and several breeds of penguins and storm petrels playing in the water. Next, cruise to the Antarctic Peninsula with the marine life around you multiplying in the polar waters. Humpback whales, orcas, penguins, seals, and sea birds call the Antarctic Peninsula home. Your cruise ship will make as many landfalls and launch zodiac excursions as possible, weather permitting. Cruise for two days, returning through the Drake Passage, past Cape Horn, and on to the calm waters of the Beagle Channel and Ushuaia. An amazing Antarctica vacation adventure is awaiting you!

Day 1: ARRIVE IN USHUAIA.
Arrive in Ushuaia, where your hotel is available for mid-afternoon check-in.

Day 2: USHUAIA (EMBARKATION).
Wake up at the "End of the World," situated on the island of Tierra del Fuego. Once a secluded outpost and penal colony, Ushuaia is now a growing community thriving on timber, fishing, and tourism. Perhaps venture into Tierra del Fuego National Park to learn about its bountiful flora and fauna. With the Chilean Andes as the backdrop, the scenery is nothing short of spectacular. Later this afternoon, embark the Ocean Atlantic for a nine-night cruise bound for the South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula. This evening, navigate the Beagle Channel as the expedition staff welcomes you on board with a welcome cocktail, dinner, and briefing. (B,D)

Day 3: CRUISING: DRAKE PASSAGE.
During the next two days, cross the famed Drake Passage, a body of water that marks the intersection of the cold Antarctic with the warmer Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Throughout the voyage, enjoy a multitude of lectures on the ecology of area and the wildlife found here from the expert team of Naturalists on board. As you sail closer to the South Pole, the excitement builds as Antarctic wildlife comes into view. Weather permitting, catch the first sight of seals, whales, and penguins and make your first zodiac cruise and landing! The area is also well-known for its abundance of birds. (B,L,D)

Day 4: CRUISING: DRAKE PASSAGE.
Continue sailing the Drake Passage. (B,L,D)

Day 5: CRUISING: SOUTH SHETLAND ISLANDS.
Over the next two days, explore the sub-Antarctic islands of the South Shetland chain and be marveled by the captivating landscapes that you will encounter along the way. Weather permitting, the projected landfalls and zodiac cruises include: King George Island where the majority of research stations are located; Deception Island, an extinct volcano with waters warm enough for a polar swim; and Half Moon Island with nesting Wilson's storm petrels and chinstrap penguins. Other wildlife sighting here include elephant, Weddell, and leopard seals, and Adelie and Gentoo penguins. Please note: The itinerary and activities over the next few days depend on weather and ice conditions. All outings and landings rely on weather, sea, and ice conditions being favorable both for the ship to access the sites, as well as for the zodiacs and kayaks to maneuver under adequate conditions, ensuring the safety of all passengers and staff. (B,L,D)

Day 6: CRUISING: SOUTH SHETLAND ISLANDS.
Continue exploring the South Shetland Islands. (B,L,D)

Day 7: CRUISING: ANTARCTIC PENINSULA.
As the white shimmer of Antarctica looms on our horizon, the presence of wildlife multiplies by tens of thousands with many species of lively penguins, inquisitive seals, nesting birds, and the spray of marine mammals. Wildlife abounds along the Antarctic Peninsula: leopard, fur, and Weddell seals of Cuverville Island; humpback whales of Gerlache Strait; Paradise Bay; the dramatic Lemaire Channel's orcas and much more. The cruise will make as many landfalls and zodiac cruises as weather permits in this region. There will also be an opportunity for the most brave to take the polar plunge into the ice-cold Antarctic waters! (B,L,D)

Day 8: CRUISING: ANTARCTIC PENINSULA.
Continue exploring the Antarctica Peninsula. (B,L,D)

Day 9: CRUISING: DRAKE PASSAGE.
Depart Antarctica and spend two days at sea on your way back to the calms of Beagle Channel and Ushuaia. En-route, cross Drake Passage and cruise past Cape Horn, a legendary maritime landmark and the southern tip of South America. (B,L,D)

Day 10: CRUISING: DRAKE PASSAGE.
Continue sailing the Drake Passage back to Ushuaia. (B,L,D)

Day 11: USHUAIA (DISEMBARKATION).

Hygiene and Safety Protocols for Monograms Tours

Today's world has changed, but what remains certain is Monograms' commitment to guest safety, comfort and peace-of-mind while traveling with us. To that end, Monograms has established a worldwide Assurance program, with enhanced on-trip protocols and procedures, to ensure the health – and happiness – of guests throughout their travels with us.

It all starts with Monograms' Global Health & Safety Team, dedicated to ensuring that cleanliness of all operations exceeds today’s travel standards—from start to finish. The following areas address Monograms' commitment to providing a safe and clean environment for guests.

A SAFE & WARM WELCOME

Monograms will enact new tour check-in procedures and pre-trip health screenings to offer guests a safe start to their journey, including adherence to social distancing requirements.

BLENDING CULTURAL PROXIMITY WITH SOCIAL DISTANCE

Monograms will ensure safe distances for guests throughout the journey, on coach and during excursions. This includes providing masks for guests use at any time where social proximity could be an issue as well as the possibility of reducing group sizes, if required. And wireless listening technology – including Monograms' Go Beyond Devices in Europe – enables safe distances between guests and other travelers on excursions.

FOCUS ON GUEST AND TEAM MEMBER HEALTH

To ensure a healthy environment for team and guests, Monograms will conduct regular temperature checks for both guests and team, and when necessary, masks will be worn by Monograms' team members when with guests.

TOUCHING HEARTS, NOT HANDS

Traveling with Monograms removes many of the “touch points” of travel, including luggage handling, check in/out, expedited entry into attractions and more. Monograms are further reducing risk with hands-free service, meaning all self-services replaced by staff, including buffet meals replaced with table service. Monograms will also ensure hand sanitizing is available throughout each trip, on coach and in hotels.

COMMITMENT TO CLEAN

As a part of Monograms' commitment to clean, Monograms is requiring enhanced cleaning procedures with hotel partners, on motorcoaches, vehicles and throughout every trip, including additional daily disinfecting procedures that go above-and-beyond already strict health and safety procedures.

PARTNERS IN DISCOVERY AND IN HEALTH

Monograms has strict health and safety protocols, which have been in place for years, focused on ensuring all aspects of operation- from vehicles and equipment used on trip to excursions and hotel procedures. This process will continue with new, elevated health and safety checks, to maintain their promise that each touch-point on tours and cruises are considered in their commitment to guest and team member well-being.

Questions & Answers

Question: How many suitcases can I take with me on my trip?

Each person is allowed one "check-in," and one "carry-on." Remember to take all valuables with you as "carry-on", because electronic equipment, cameras, laptops, jewelry, business documents and money are not covered by the airlines' liability, so always carry them aboard with you.

Question: Is Airfare Included in the Price?

Airfare from your point of origin to and from the trip is not included in the land price.

It was an amazing trip with fantastic local guides in every location.

Excellent services, reliable, informative, friendly

Our trip was wonderful. Everything that was offered was provided. The local hosts were great and professional.

The travel consultants are knowlegeable about tour details and do a great job matching customer needs with the right tour.

Monograms was just the right mix for us. City tours and transportation were great - but we enjoyed the flexibility of going out and seeing what we wanted to see at our own pace.

Outstanding service and organized. Would recommend to anyone.

I wouldn't change a thing. From start to finish-professional advice and detailed explanation of what to expect-a great adventure!

The Monograms local host system worked like clockwork. They were there as scheduled and took the worry out of flight, hotel, and tour transfers.

A trip that I found to be a nightmare to try and plan on my own was made so easy by having Marianne take charge and make all of the arrangements. I had been searching on line, had met with a local travel agent, and was overwhelmed and really getting nowhere. I was ready to give up on my trip planning, stumbled across finding Marianne, and suddenly she made the seemingly impossible happen with no problems! Without her expertise guiding me along and handling the arrangements, I have no doubt that this trip would not have happened. As for the trip: Monograms did a superb job with putting their package together. It more than exceeded my expectations. this will undoubtedly rank as one of my best trips EVER.

Monograms was fantastic. We were independant and did not use them for many of the excursions but they were very helpful for first day orientation, suggestions and were available throughout for any questions. The included half day tours were very good. If you wanted to have everything arranged for you instead of being independant there were many good excursions to choose from.

Very well organized tour, knowledgeable guides. Have a wonderful time.

Monograms was wonderful! Everything was just as they promised. The travel was easy, there were no surprises, it was a stress-free vacation! Having the local host available was great. They were all valuable.

This is our third trip booked with Trena through Affordable Tours using the Globus company. The trip went off without a single glitch from flights to airport transfers to hotel.

Monograms, for the most part, was great We loved the "independent tour" format which gave us much more flexibility with our time in each place we visited. The local hosts were great-some better for us than others--but very helpful. The city tours which were provided varied in quality but usually gave a good overview of the city. A couple of our hotels were not as good as others (construction in progress, smaller rooms or breakfast not as comprehensive) but all were clean and adequate. Two of our flights were changed by the airlines, but the transportation contracted by Monograms did not get the change (schedule change occurred weeks before we left the US for our trip) so did not arrive to take us to the airport. Thank goodness for Uber!

The hotels were wonderful, I can't complain about that.
