Check into your hotel. The rest of the day is free. Tonight, meet your Tour Director and fellow travelers. (D)
Day 2: AMSTERDAM AREA.
For centuries, this tiny nation of seafaring traders played a leading role in world history. It wrested 40% of its territory from the hostile sea, and produces a healthy agricultural surplus in the midst of Europe’s most densely populated area—yet Holland manages to remain quaint and scenic. Enjoy a CANAL CRUISE to see Amsterdam from water level. Complete the experience watching skilled craftsmen cut and polish precious stones at a DIAMOND CENTER, and following a Local Guide pointing out Amsterdam’s highlights on the included city tour. This afternoon, spend some time exploring on your own, or complete the experience with one of our optional excursions. (B)
Day 3: AMSTERDAM AREA–BREMEN, GERMANY–HAMBURG.
This morning, travel to the Hanseatic city of Bremen, which majestically straddles the Weser River. Settlements date back to the 7th century, but the city rose in prominence as trade with Norway, England, and the Netherlands increased in the 11th century. Bremen’s attractions include the opulent Town Hall, a UNESCO World Heritage Site; the massive, 15th-century statue of Roland, the city’s protector; the oldest wine cellar in Germany; and the bronze sculpture of the Bremen Town Musicians from the Grimm Brothers’ famous fairytale. Continue to Hamburg, Germany’s second-largest city, and arrive in time for an optional harbor cruise.

Arrive in Copenhagen.

Via the ØRESUND BRIDGE, the longest road and rail bridge in Europe, travel across the strait that separates Denmark and Sweden. Stop in Halmstad on the Nissan River with its 17th-century castle. Walk along the stone streets of the town center, lined with cafés, and admire the Pablo Picasso sculpture, Female Head, before heading towards Gothenburg, Sweden’s thriving, second-largest city, which is one of Europe’s major seaports.
Today’s Distance: 205 mi/ 330 km (B,D)
Day 7: GOTHENBURG–FREDERIKSTAD, NORWAY–OSLO.

Cosmos hotels are usually not located near city/tourist centers. On this tour, 2 hotel locations was not near anything; no restaurants or shops nearby. One hotel was not near any public transportation. I requested a no red meat dinner at the First Kviberg Park Hotel in Goteborg, Sweden, and all I got was a small green salad! Worst included dinner I've had on a Cosmos tour, & I've been on over 10 Cosmos tours.
The First kviberg Park hotel did not meet expectations. It was too far away from city center and since it's a sport facility, they were different games being played until late at night disrupting our peaceful time. The room was very small and uncomfortable.
Some of the hotels were too far away (Amsterdam) and/or didn't meet our expectations. The included meals were very good especially the breakfasts. The optional meals were somewhat overpriced but Norway is overpriced. The tour guide and driver were excellent. We had a great time.
The lodgings at Park inn Copenhagen were just awful, the walls were dirty, the water from the bathtub backed up from the drain and flooded the floor. It truly looked and felt like being in a prison, awful. I would probably not do a coach tour again, and if I would, it would be a much smaller group, 10-20 at the most, not 41. Our tour guide Miladen was wonderful, and did a great job. The bus drivers did a good job too.
Most of the Cosmos included tours are sitting in the bus. The program included a couple of palaces or castles that then the tour guide was not able to show us, inside or outside. We paid for all the options. The first one from Amsterdam going to Volendam and Zaanse we didn't have enough time to walk it around or have lunch....just one hour each. A lot of rushing. The other paid tour to the Zelands castles included one from the inside and the other two just from the outside. Hamburg and all stops in Sweden were nothing special. We should have stayed one extra day in Hamburg to go to those interesting museums. Going to big cities that remind me to USA cities doesn't make sense. Some hotels were not comfortable, some with difficulty climbing the tub to take a shower or little space to shower, no A/C, and too far from downtown. At least a flyer with the transportation info should have been provided to make it easy to the people to use it. With different currency, do you buy the train or bus ticket in an office or in the train, do they accept payment with the credit card or we need coins, how far we have to walk from the hotel to the stop, what is the name of the station to get off and come bus, etc. Our bus was excellent. Waking up every day between 6 and 6:30 am and then coming back or arriving to the next destination around 5 pm didn't make much sense. Would be nice to extend the arrival to 7 pm so we can use that extra time to walk around without rushing it.
Britt our tour director was very good and knowledgeable, Jakob was very good at driving the bus and getting it around small streets and places. The trip was OK till Norway, then was great. It seemed to my wife and I that it was more geared to shopping. Amsterdam the windmills was great, The Dutch meal was not worth the cost was really disappointed as was most everyone else who went. WE were given time to be on our own but it was almost always in the middle of town my a shopping center. I wold have liked more history ie castle tours, gardens, battlefields, more Viking sites etc. Norway was the only place where we go to see nature, waterfalls, streams, Fjords etc. Would have liked to see more Viking sites. The ski jump was ok but it was just the view, the Viking Museum should be included on tour. As the name implies Viking Explorer it should have geared more to the Viking not just in mane only. Viking sites how and where and how they lived and worked, was what I guess I was expecting. Thanks
The trip was such a delight. I really enjoyed it to the max. The only thing is we could have spent longer in a couple of spots to see more of the sights, but then may have missed out on other places we got to experience. So it makes me want to go back and catch the things we missed.
The tour manager was nice. She offered me her jacket when I left mine in the suitcase. The tour included seeing the Picasso sculpture but we were never taken there and neither were people able to find it. Tour guide should've taken us there specially because it's adverised as a high lite/part of tour and she didn't even it find it or took us there. Also there was hardly nothing covered in holland. The diamond factory was a waste of time! I would've prefer to spend time visiting volendam and the windmills. What's a trip to holland without seeing that or the shoe and cheese factory?? Thank God I started the tour earlier and saw them. Cosmos sells cheap packages but so are the tours. The hotel and the stay in Sweden was awful!! The hotel was inside a gym full of teenagers and we couldn't even use the gym as a courtesy for staying there. The hotel room was cold and didn't have any way of controlling heat. It was in middle of nowhere with nothing to see or do at night. Our stay in Sweden was just a drive way. That's a shame, such a beautiful country and they took us to that dump! The food in hotel was less than average, bland. No choices just what they put on table. In comparison with other tour companies they offer a lot more but about same or maybe little more but I'll gladly pay difference next time and not book with cosmos. I only took this tour because of the places it went. Also in Germany didn't see a whole either. Hotels are not centralized so we're staying next to nothing. Norway was exceptional. Except the hotel in Oslo again was not centralized.
Included meals were wonderful and best of all they included a lot of local foods. The rooms were usually small but comfortable beds and very clean. A few closets and safes would have been nice but I made do.
The Tour Director was wonderful and very informative. She had a great sense of knowledge of the areas we went too. She was really wonderful. The driver was the BEST driver anyone could ask for. He was very polite and extremely friendly. We really enjoyed all the places we went to.
Both trips booked with Cosmos have been excellent. The trip to Italy was spectacular and the price was very fair. The Amsterdam to Norway was a bit more pricey and we seemed to spend a lot more time traveling on the bus.
