Tour Itinerary

Looking for the ultimate safari adventure through Africa?  This one doesn't just explore the gorgeous city of Cape Town and thundering might of Victoria Falls - it also takes a wild safari through iconic Kruger, before exploring the breathtaking landscapes of Botswana and Namibia, with heaps of included game drives, luxe lodges with swimming pools, opportunities for helicopter wildlife spotting and interactions with indigenous communities. This is the ultimate African adventure, unfiltered, and once you've made memories like these under African skies, your life will never be the same.

  1. Day 1
    Start Cape Town
The adventure begins. Drop off your bags at the hotel and meet your Trip Manager and new Contiki fam in the lobby. We'll all share a meal tonight along with some drinks to get to know each other.Accommodation: Mojo Hotel (or similar)
    Meals:   Dinner
  2. Day 2
    Cape Town
Our time in Cape Town is dedicated to sightseeing and today is no exception. We start at the very top with a cable car ride up Table Mountain, followed by a city tour of Cape Town so you can navigate your way around this coastal city. The rest of the day is up to you - either explore the city yourself on foot, relax on one of Cape Town's beautiful beaches, or take advantage of some of the Add-Ons. The Contiki-exclusive Marine Safari Cruise in Table Bay gives you the opportunity to see dolphins, seals, sunfish and - in the right season – whales. Or, the Township Tour & School gives an insight into township life with local guide. Back in Cape Town, we’ve got a South African Feast FTA to enjoy tonight where you can talk about the day’s adventures over fresh seafood and delicious wine.Accommodation: Mojo Hotel (or similar)
    Meals:   Breakfast
  3. Day 3
    Cape Town
After breakfast, this is your day to take advantage of the abundance of local excursions available to Cape Town. Our favourite is a scenic drive along the cliffs of Chapman's Peak down to the most South-western tip of Africa - Cape Point. This is followed by a stop at Boulders Beach, home to a colony of adorable African penguins. For the perfect afternoon activity, you can't go wrong by wine tasting with a view to end off an incredible day of touring the "fairest Cape in all the world."Accommodation: Mojo Hotel (or similar)
    Meals:   Breakfast
  4. Day 4
Cape Town to Kruger National Park
Today we have an early flight to Johannesburg, the city of Gold, where we jump in our vehicle for the long trip up to the Kruger National Park. We'll travel through the region to our accommodation for the night on the border of this famous wildlife haven. Here the Kruger National Park awaits us. Site of the epic YouTube viral video Battle at Kruger, the Park is a sprawling wilderness of bush and terrain that houses the famous Big Five (lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant, and buffalo) along with hundreds of species of native birds, ancient trees and meandering rivers. It's ours to explore for the next two days. After the long days travel, the included dinner will taste even better tonight.Accommodation: Shalati Safari Lodge (or similar)
    Meals:   Breakfast   Dinner
  5. Day 5
    Kruger National Park
We're up early for our first taste of the fresh morning air that tells us we're deep in the African bush. We'll venture to the Park gate and enter at sunrise, just the right time to see some of Africa's elusive predators finishing off their nocturnal hunts. We'll discover who in the group has the 'Luck of the bush' and best spotting eyes. Lunch will be at one of the main camps in the park and we'll relax here in the midday heat. In the afternoon we depart for another game drive, as the temperatures start cooling and the wildlife become more active, as we make our way to the park exit for sunset. A buffet dinner awaits us at the Lodge tonight.Accommodation: Shalati Safari Lodge (or similar)
    Meals:   Breakfast   Dinner
  6. Day 6
    Kruger National Park to Johannesburg
The game of hide and seek continues as we traverse into the park, keeping our eyes open for any wildlife that evaded us the day before. Keep your eyes peeled for any movement of giraffe, hyena, antelope or even the elusive cheetah lurking deep in the bush. Around midday we depart the park for the final time and stop in at the Protrack Anti-Poaching Centre to learn about wild animal conservation with a local ranger. Walking through a 'poaching pit', we'll be shown how to look out for poaching snares placed around the area, simulating what rangers have to do in the bush, as the ranger explains the plight of poaching and rhinos in Africa. Drive to Johannesburg, we'll bunk down before for our flight to Victoria Falls tomorrow.Accommodation: Sunrock Guesthouse (or similar)
    Meals:   Breakfast   Dinner
  7. Day 7
    Johannesburg to Victoria Falls
This morning we'll drive to the airport to catch our flight up to Victoria Falls. After lunch on our flight we'll check into our accommodation and drop off our bags. Today we're off for a hike along the Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders and the largest waterfall in the world. You might want to pack your raincoat, as during certain times of the year you can get drenched from the rising spray, giving the falls its local name: 'The smoke that thunders'. The evening will end off with a magnificent sunset cruise on the Zambezi including drinks and dinner. Please note: From January to June this trip puts you in the Victoria Falls Waterfront Hotel, Zambia, with a riverside deck and bar that overlooks the spray of the thunderous falls. Health and Safety Protocols for Contiki Tours

Contiki has introduced these enhanced hygiene protocols – for you and team members.

You can travel with Contiki and be assured that their team has put numerous new measures in place to elevate their hygiene standards and protocols. The well-being of guests and team has always been, and always will be, their primary concern.

In this new, fast changing Covid-19 era, Contiki is doing all they can to adapt to new requirements and expectations. Here are some important new steps and procedures that they have implemented to enhance hygiene protocols, to comply with physical distancing requirements by relevant government authorities and to give you the peace of mind when you are traveling during these new times.

Expertly Trained Travel Directors

Travel Director training equips them with enhanced hygiene and physical distancing procedures. During your trip, they will operate with a duty of care and monitor the hygiene etiquette of the guests, reacting and advising as needed, to ensure high standards are maintained. Before you travel, Contiki will also keep you well informed about new protocols required in these areas, and ask that you cooperate with and heed the advice and direction of Travel Directors while on your trip. The Travel Directors have preventative measures in place to try and ensure your well-being and in the event that any unexpected issues arise on trip, they will activate additional protocols.

Stringent On-the-Road Protocols

The customized luxury coaches are sanitised before the start of your trip and have always been kept to very high standards. Following the outbreak of COVID-19, Contiki have taken additional measures to elevate hygiene and sanitary practices in accordance with guidance from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and as required, applicable government regulations. The Driver training provides them with the latest hygiene protocols. They will clean and disinfect all surfaces including handrails, door handles, tables, seats, air-conditioning filters and overhead lockers on a daily basis. All the guests are asked to follow hygiene practices recommended by the World Health Organisation including the thorough and regular washing of hands and sanitising when required. Hand sanitiser is freely available on board for your use throughout the day. Please bring your own washable face mask and gloves with you, and additional hand sanitiser to make you feel comfortable, as these will be required to be worn in public in some countries. Should an unexpected situation arise, additional face masks, rubber gloves, antiviral sprays and wipes will be available for guest distribution on all trips.

A Full Team of Support 24/7

It’s not just your Travel Director and Driver who will be taking care of you. Behind the scenes, the operations and guest support teams are in contact with them and on call 24/7, so you can rest assured that you’re in good hands.

Physical Distancing

Adapting to the right size groups, based on government distancing requirements, you can rest assured that you will travel with the comfort of your own personal space. Have peace of mind that all of the experiences, hotels and restaurants you’ll enjoy on your trip have been vetted to ensure they adhere to physical distancing and hygiene guidelines.

Trusted Partners, Exceptional Standards

Contiki is very selective in who they work with and choose to only use hotels, restaurants, ground handlers and venues that take the well-being of the guests as seriously as Contiki does and agrees to meet expected guidelines and specifications. Contiki only works with establishments that they are confident will consistently adhere to their high standards.

Always in the Know

As part of The Travel Corporation (TTC) , Contiki is kept up to date with all government advisories and travel alerts on a daily basis and is continually in touch with all of the partners on the ground in each destination. Also, rest assured that during your trip, the teams work to ensure the supplier partners (hotels, restaurants, museums and other venues) are also applying the same standard to these new hygiene and distancing protocols, to the extent possible.

Prepare to spend more than usual on a Contiki tour.

We were lucky that the group of people with were good, but it was a large group tour and did have some of the downfalls of a trip of that nature, like frequent breaks for the bathroom, difficulty when eating out together, and getting things on and off the coach. The trip was still great and a good value for the money.

It was a good value and the experiences included were worth it. The only part that wasn't the best were the accommodations as it was hit and miss. Half of the hotels on the trip were okay, and the other half were really nice.
