Itinerary

Tour Itinerary

The historic cultural hubs and colourful folklore of Bohemia take centre stage on this 15 day epic encounter with Germany, Poland, Hungary, Austria and the Czech Republic. You’ll witness the triumph of the human spirit, explore the medieval history of enchanting towns and cities and uncover the myths and legends that have shaped this multicultural crossroads at the heart of Europe.

  1. Day 1
    Arrive Frankfurt (1 Night)
Don’t let the glass and steel skyscrapers deceive you. At its heart, Frankfurt’s high-powered business hub communes with a warm medieval centre where half-timbered buildings and tiny taverns line cobbled lanes and the aroma of apple cider lingers around every turn. Here ‘Mainhattan’ meets medieval charm. This afternoon, your Travel Director will lead an orientation tour around the city’s dynamic financial centre and medieval Römerberg. See the Römer, which has served as Frankfurt’s city hall since the 15th century and admire the neo-medieval architecture that has been lovingly restored after World War II.
  2. Day 2
    Frankfurt – Berlin (2 Nights)
Leaving the high-rises behind, you’ll journey across the northern plains of Germany to the dynamic and energetic capital that is Berlin. This bold capital wears its grittiness for all to see – edgy street art adorns the city’s ever-evolving façades and street food markets reveal a cosmopolitan line-up of cultures and cuisines that make Berlin an exhilaratingly diverse city to explore. You’ll have time to explore this UNESCO 'City of Design' your way or consider joining an Optional Experience with good food, wine, beer and music followed by a twilight tour of some of Berlin's beautiful illuminations.Accommodation: Amber Econtel Charlottenburg
    Meals:   Breakfast
  3. Day 3
    Berlin sightseeing and free time
There's never a dull moment in Berlin. This city has endured more over the past century than most and yet you can almost feel its characteristic philosophy of ‘let the good times roll'. Kickstart your Berlin adventure this morning with your Local Specialist, who will bring the city’s history to life as you see the Reichstag building, German State Opera House, the Tiergarten, Unter den Linden and Brandenburg Gate, the iconic 18th-century military monument. Spend the rest of the day exploring the city your way or join an Optional Experience to uncover the secrets of the city's World War II and Cold War past. You could even choose to venture beyond the city for a dinner of German specialties in the countryside.Accommodation: Amber Econtel Charlottenburg
    Meals:   Breakfast
  4. Day 4
    Berlin – Pozna? – Warsaw (2 Nights)
Close the curtain on your spirited encounter with Berlin and head east into Poland. Stop first in Pozna?, one of the oldest cities in Poland and birthplace of the Polish nation. View its colourful market square and town hall where a curious battle between two iron goats to mark noon has taken centre stage above its clock for over five centuries. Then head to Poland’s modern metropolis of Warsaw which has risen with all the invigorating spirit of a phoenix after a recent tragic past.Accommodation: Holiday Inn Express - Hub
    Meals:   Breakfast   Dinner
  5. Day 5
    Warsaw sightseeing and free time
This morning, perhaps enjoy an optional visit to the 17th-century Baroque Wilanów Palace, once the summer home of King Jan Sobieski III. Then, dive into Warsaw's turbulent past with a Local Specialist. Your sightseeing tour across this historic capital will reveal how the resilient Poles rebuilt their city after the destruction of World War II. You'll see St. John's Cathedral and the Royal Palace in the Old Town, then visit the site of the Warsaw Ghetto which confined over 400,000 near-starving Jews during World War II. With the rest of the afternoon free to explore your way, why not embark on an exploration of the Praga-Pó?noc district, one of Europe's coolest neighbourhoods, including a visit to Poland's first vodka museum.Accommodation: Holiday Inn Express - Hub
    Meals:   Breakfast
  6. Day 6
    Warsaw – Cz?stochowa – Auschwitz – Kraków (2 Nights)
Travel south to Kraków today. Your first stop will be at the former concentration camp at Auschwitz for a poignant reminder of the horrors of the Holocaust. Arrive in Kraków later, Poland's cultural and intellectual heart, and make a beeline for the Rynek G?ówny market square, where much of the magic happens. Every hour, on the hour, you'll hear the sound of the medieval St. Mary's Trumpet Call, cut short to honour the death of the trumpeter who saved Kraków from a Tatar invasion centuries ago.Accommodation: Ibis Stare Miasto
    Meals:   Breakfast   Dinner
  7. Day 7
    Kraków sightseeing and free time
Today is all about uncovering the legendary history of this beautiful city. Be sure to keep a keen eye out for the thirsty dragon whose legendary demise, thanks to the clever thinking of a humble shoemaker, led to the birth of Kraków. You’ll kick things off with a sightseeing tour with your Local Specialist who will share the thrilling tale of the city’s origins as you trace its medieval walls and see Wawel Castle where the dragon once roamed in its dungeons. You’ll have the rest of the day to yourself and perhaps you’d like to spend the afternoon wandering the UNESCO-listed Old Town, or choose an optional experience that would see you exploring the UNESCO-listed Wieliczka Salt Mines, often referred to as the Underground Salt Cathedral of Poland. This evening, why not enjoy a night out with an optional farmhouse dinner and Polka party where you'll swing around the dance floor after a meal of Polish specialties.Accommodation: Ibis Stare Miasto
    Meals:   Breakfast
  8. Day 8
    Kraków – Budapest (2 Nights)
Head south through Poland, then slice through the pastoral heart of Slovakia bound for Hungary. Your final destination is Budapest, which sits straddled on either side of the beautiful Danube – two halves shaped by a captivating mix of Magyar, German, Slav, Jewish, Roma and Turkish settlers that have made Budapest into the cultural capital it is today. Begin your exploration of this 'Pearl of the Danube' on the water with an optional scenic cruise on a private boat along the Danube. Against an enchanting illuminated backdrop, you'll enjoy a dinner of Hungarian specialties while you sail underneath the famous Chain Bridge and past Budapest's majestic Parliament buildings.Accommodation: Ibis Styles City
    Meals:   Breakfast
  9. Day 9
    Budapest sightseeing and free time
Like all great capitals, Budapest's story begins with a legend, and your Local Specialist will share all the exciting tales during your sightseeing. Then there's time to explore the 1000-year history of Budapest on your own or perhaps join an Optional Experience, including a goulash cooking demonstration, to the medieval town of Szentendre, set on the banks of the Danube.Accommodation: Ibis Styles City
    Meals:   Breakfast   Dinner
  10. Day 10
    Budapest – Gy?r – Vienna (2 Nights)
All that glitters certainly is gold in Budapest. You'll see this first-hand during an optional visit to the Hungarian Parliament, whose original recipe features rum, raisins and chocolate - a truly decadent way to start the day. The highlights of Bohemia just keep on coming as we continue our trip across the hilly landscapes of Transdanubia to Gy?r, a charming city which sits at the crossroads of Central Europe, midway between Budapest and Vienna. Wander the historic streets then continue across the Austrian border arriving in Vienna later today, a city where music literally surrounds you. But this city can carry more than a tune as you'll come to discover when you join an optional dinner in a favourite Viennese restaurant including musical entertainment.Accommodation: Ibis Wien Mariahilf

Meet your Local Specialist, who will reveal all the secrets and stories of this imperial city. See the Parliament, the Vienna Opera House, the Hofburg and the City Hall, before heading out on your own. You'll need no excuse to embrace the locals' love of the good life as you indulge in the city's Kafee culture with a heavenly slice of Sachertorte to tame your chocoholic tendencies. This evening, the melodies of a musical Vienna are the order of the day if you join an optional dinner followed by a concert of Strauss and Mozart masterpieces.Accommodation: Ibis Wien Mariahilf

Costsaver has introduced these enhanced hygiene protocols – for you and team members.

Costsaver asks that you please take personal responsibility for your wellbeing. This begins with packing any personal protective equipment and sanitizers you require. Please adopt physical distancing and hygiene practises throughout your pre-trip travel arrangements and follow all health instruction whether physical signage, or requests from the professional staff once you are vacationing.

Expertly Trained Travel Directors

Travel Director training equips them with enhanced hygiene and physical distancing procedures. During your trip, they will operate with a duty of care and monitor the hygiene etiquette of the guests, reacting and advising as needed, to ensure high standards are maintained. Before you travel, Costsaver will also keep you well informed about new protocols required in these areas, and ask that you cooperate with and heed the advice and direction of Travel Directors while on your trip. The Travel Directors have preventative measures in place to try and ensure your well-being and in the event that any unexpected issues arise on trip, they will activate additional protocols.

Stringent On-the-Road Protocols

The customized luxury coaches are sanitised before the start of your trip and have always been kept to very high standards. Following the outbreak of COVID-19, Costsaver have taken additional measures to elevate hygiene and sanitary practices in accordance with guidance from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and as required, applicable government regulations. The Driver training provides them with the latest hygiene protocols. They will clean and disinfect all surfaces including handrails, door handles, tables, seats, air-conditioning filters and overhead lockers on a daily basis. All the guests are asked to follow hygiene practices recommended by the World Health Organisation including the thorough and regular washing of hands and sanitising when required. Hand sanitiser is freely available on board for your use throughout the day. Please bring your own washable face mask and gloves with you, and additional hand sanitiser to make you feel comfortable, as these will be required to be worn in public in some countries. Should an unexpected situation arise, additional face masks, rubber gloves, antiviral sprays and wipes will be available for guest distribution on all trips.

A Full Team of Support 24/7

It’s not just your Travel Director and Driver who will be taking care of you. Behind the scenes, the operations and guest support teams are in contact with them and on call 24/7, so you can rest assured that you’re in good hands.

Physical Distancing

Adapting to the right size groups, based on government distancing requirements, you can rest assured that you will travel with the comfort of your own personal space. Have peace of mind that all of the experiences, hotels and restaurants you’ll enjoy on your trip have been vetted to ensure they adhere to physical distancing and hygiene guidelines.

Trusted Partners, Exceptional Standards

Costsaver only works with establishments that they are confident will consistently adhere to their high standards.

Always in the Know

As part of The Travel Corporation (TTC) , Costsaver is kept up to date with all government advisories and travel alerts on a daily basis and is continually in touch with all of the partners on the ground in each destination. Also, rest assured that during your trip, the teams work to ensure the supplier partners (hotels, restaurants, museums and other venues) are also applying the same standard to these new hygiene and distancing protocols, to the extent possible.

Fantastic tour packed full of unique and memorable experiences!!

This trip had a great itinerary.

The cruise director: Craig is the best director ever experience in a trip like this. And the driver the most experience in this type. ( To both Thank you very much for the great vacation ever.)

I purchased this trip for my 18-year-old granddaughter, who went on the trip by herself. She was extremely happy with all aspects of the trip. I particularly want to thank Dana with Affordable Tours, who was contacted by my daughter on the day of departure (my daughter was monitoring my granddaughter's departure and return from Germany to her home airport of Newark, as well as serving as the more travel-savvy point person during the trip itself). Apparently, various difficulties resulted in a cancellation of the return flight, which would have demanded a 22 hour delay. My granddaughter would have been stranded without a hotel or specific plan. She called my daughter, who contacted Dana either late at night or early in the morning. Dana personally used her connections to set up a return flight for Eowyn within two hours. I only learned about this today, as neither my granddaughter or daughter wanted me to fall apart over this....what was important is that quick, professional, personal service was available. That alone will make Affordable Tours the option I will pursue to future travel plans both for myself and for other members of my family. Thank you, Dana. We are indescribably grateful for your reassurance and help.

It was a wonderful trip in all aspects. Excellent customer service while booking and excellent tour guide.

Did have problems with a/c with some hotels. Otherwise all hotel rooms were nice rooms. Some had coffee available others had nothing. Not one hotel offer any ice buckets. Not much room to layout large baggage. Some hotels only offer one pillow. One hotel had some really bad towels. I believe all hotels on any tour should always include breakfast. I would recommend that all hotels on any tour to provide coffee in every room along with a cold storage device.

We loved the tour. The tour Director was excellent and the tour and hotels were great. I would definitely take another CostSaver tour.
