Tour Itinerary

Whoever said “Life isn’t all sunshine and rainbows” never visited the enchanting state of New Mexico or attended the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. Artists, writers, and poets have long been inspired by the hues of hot pinks, deep purples, and flaming oranges that dance daily across the mystical southwestern sky. But for one week in October, chasing rainbows becomes even easier as hundreds of hot air balloons take flight and turn the already stunning atmosphere into a kaleidoscope of dizzying color. The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta may be the largest balloon event in the world, yet its Mass Ascension, fiery Balloon Glow, evening fireworks, and other beloved rituals aren’t the only highlights on this vibrant New Mexico vacation. Visits to artsy Santa Fe, and the Miracle Stairway are equally uplifting.

Globus tour director exceeded all our expectations and made arrangements to ensure full satisfaction of the program despite weather conditions beyond her control. Much appreciated extra effort.

Everything was wonderful except was not impressed with Doubletree hotel. They did not seem prepared for the number of guests who were there to sttend the baloon festival.

What a wonderful way to experience the Balloon Fiesta! Matt, the tour director, made the journey so enjoyable as did Trevor, our driver. I would highly recommend this as an option.

The hotel was acceptable, however, their staff was unprepared for this group of people, although the Fiesta has been held for 40 years. The first night for our meeting they didn't have the room set up, people didn't have chairs, although they had the entire day to get it set up. The front desk tried to give us another type of room, although we paid for 2 double beds. The scheduled day 2 was great, no issues, except our bus had to be scheduled for the Tram ride to day 4 - that was no problem. Day 3 - After Glow & fireworks were rained out - but no backup plan for the evening was available. Day 4 - to Santa Fe - due to the number of buses and people tours were staggered - bus 3 did not eat dinner until 9:00 PM , which is unacceptable. We were told to walk around for 3 hours, however, all the shops closed. Another alternative should have been provided to bus 3, as many of the people had early flights the next morning as well as being too old to eat this late. You need to plan the meal, perhaps each bus goes to their own restaurant - getting back at 11:30 PM is too late. Take Madrid off your tour, not worth the stop.

Thanks so much, it was a wonderful trip. Loved the balloon festival. It was so nice not to have to worry about driving, making arrangements, etc. Everything was taken care of. Had a great tour guide, wonderful bus and driver. We would definitely travel with Globus again.

Fairly good except for the change made on Monday. Our bus visited the Tram in Abq making our departure late leaving. The stop in Madrid should be eliminated. Not worth the trouble. Our bus could not find a parking spot that locals would allow us to use, so we drove on to Sante Fe. Most everyone agreed that the stop should be eliminated. Our bus had a late dinner (8:30 PM) which was too late for everyone. Most shops etc. were closed after 5PM. This was not the tour directors fault.

This tour with Globus did not seem to be well organized. Although our tour director has been doing this for 7 years he said, he had a very casual take on everything. They did not collect our emergency information until the 2nd day, they had no back up plans when the fireworks were cancelled due to rain on the third day. They could have at least mentioned some nearby restaurants as the plan had been to eat at the balloon fiesta. The last day because they oversold the tour we did not have dinner till 830 in Santa Fe and then drove back to the hotel and did not arrive till after 11pm. Many of us had early flights and still had to pack. In addition I found out they had me on the wrong flight home and then the wrong shuttle so if I had not checked I would have missed my flight home. The hotel was clean but again very disorganized. Being that the balloon fiesta is the biggest event of the year there, they were poorly staffed and the staff was not trained well., The food at the hotel was so so and most of the time just lukewarm. They need a different hotel for us to stay at. I did love the Balloon Fiesta, just found it not well coordinated. Our fellow travelers did say they had done many Globus tours before and they had never had any run this poorly.

The hotel restaurant wasn't very prepared for our large group (150 people) and the ballroom for our welcome meeting was not prepared for the people, did not have enough chairs set up and took several trips to get enough chairs, then we went down to the restaurant to eat, and ordered the taco bar and was told OK, but was not told to go and help ourselves til one of the other waitress' came by our table, we had no silverware, water, silverware til the new waitress came by, everyone waited a long time to get their food, even ordering off the menu. They seems overwelmed. Our tour guide and bus driver were fantastic. Overall it was a very good trip. balloons were beautiful. Our afterglow and fireworks (on Sunday night) got rained out and the free time in Santa Fe was extra long (abt 4 1/2 - 5 hrs) for us older folks, or for us it was anyway. But overall we really enjoyed this trip. Would do it again. Meet some really nice people.

this was the worst trip we have ever taken. The tour guide was not personable or organized. The 3 tour guides didn't take us to see the Mass Ascension of the balloons on Sunday after the ascension was canceled on Saturday due to high winds. One of the buses in our group of 120 got lost going to the tram and that group had to wait 3 hours to ride the tram. That is inexcusable. The tour guides and drivers should be knowledgeable about where we're going and no one should get lost. I will not travel with Globus ever again.
