Tour Itinerary

Everything is bigger in Texas! With its spacious size and cultural diversity, Texas is described by locals as “a whole other country.” On this tour through the Lone Star State, you’ll discover its major cities—Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, and Houston—and some of its historic landmarks, museums, and must-see sights. History buffs will be fascinated at the Sixth Floor Museum in Dallas, the location from which Lee Harvey Oswald allegedly shot President John F. Kennedy. In Austin visit the Bob Bullock State History Museum that tells the “Story of Texas.” See the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historic Park in Texas Hill Country and hear the story of President Johnson’s life. In nearby Fredericksburg, stroll the historic district shopping, pursuing one-of-a-kind, eclectic shops, art galleries, and museums. In San Antonio visit the San Fernando Cathedral, the oldest cathedral in the United States and take a self-guided tour of the famous Alamo. Enjoy a private, narrated cruise down the San Antonio River through the picturesque River Walk area. Highlights in Houston include a behind-the-scenes tram tour of the Johnson Space Center, home to NASA and the U.S. Space Program. See flown spacecraft, learn how astronauts live aboard the International Space Station, and discover what it takes to travel to Mars! Leave the Lone Star State and travel to the Louisiana city of Lafayette to take a cruise through moss-draped cypress trees in the Atchafalaya Basin—keeping an eye out for alligators. Then travel across Bayou Country to New Orleans and take a sightseeing tour with a Local Guide visiting the French Quarter and other famous landmarks. All of this and much more await you on this value-minded vacation in Texas and Louisiana!

  1. Day 1
Welcome to Dallas! Your Tour Director is on hand late this afternoon to answer any questions.
  2. Day 2
Today’s sightseeing features Pioneer Plaza, commemorating the trails that brought settlers to Dallas and cattle to market; the Historic West End; and The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, where history buffs can learn all about that moment in history when alleged killer, Lee Harvey Oswald, fired the lethal shots that killed President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963.
  3. Day 3
This morning, journey to Fort Worth, a Texas city famous for its unmistakable combination of “cowboys and culture.” Visit the Stockyards National Historic District and get a taste of the true American West. Afterward, meet the drovers/cowboys of the Fort Worth Herd and see a Longhorn cattle drive before visiting the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame. It’s here that the museum pays tribute to more than 70 cowboys and cowgirls who have excelled in the sport of rodeo, and the Western lifestyle. This evening, you may choose to enjoy Sundance Square, or visit Billy Bob’s, known as “The World’s Largest Honky Tonk”.
  4. Day 4
In Waco, visit the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum. Learn about the mission, history, staff, and governance of America’s first law enforcement historical center founded in 1964. Then visit the Bob Bullock State History Museum that tells the “Story of Texas.” Afterward, enjoy a city sightseeing tour that features Austin’s downtown, including historic Sixth Street, the Texas Capitol complex, Governor’s Mansion, and the University of Texas. It was here in 1836 that a small band of Texans defended themselves against the Mexican army, and although the Alamo fell, it remains hallowed ground and symbolizes courage and sacrifice for the cause of liberty. End your day back at the River Walk, where Spanish colonial architecture, fountains, and plazas make it one of the city’s most picturesque areas. (B)

Appreciate all that Houston has to offer on a sightseeing tour of America’s fourth-largest city. See the Theatre District, which is second only to New York City, and marvel at the world-famous Texas Medical Center, whose 675 acres and 42 nonprofit institutions make it the largest medical complex in the world. Last, but not least, is a visit to one of Houston’s most expensive neighborhoods, River Oaks. (B)

This was an enjoyable trip. Through affordabletours.com and Cosmos I was able to get all the necessary information before I left. Then the tour was a good combination of history, culture, nature, and fun.

The tour was everything I expected and more. Both our tour director and driver were professional, helpful, and friendly. We had some weather issues, but Cosmos/tour managers were able to get around it in a way that did not distract from out tour experience.

The trip was wonderful, our guide was outstanding.

The tour director and bus driver were both excellent. Our tour director was a native Texan (for the Texas tour) and the bus driver a native of New Orleans so we had their personal insights as well as the standard info. Both were very personable as well as helpful and professional. They added a few free perks to the standard program, such as a visit to the San Jacinto monument and the visit to a picturesque restaurant and a visit to see the bats near Fredericksburg. This trip was well worth the money ; the hotels exceeded my expectations and were all very comfortable.

The driver and tour director were exceptionally good. Except for Ramada Inn, accommodations were good. However, restaurants were not in walking distance for some of them. Drury Inn provides limited free food and free drinks, a plus. Some sites could be changed (in process now).

This was another great trip. Now I'm looking forward to my E. Europe Globus tour starting June 22, 2014.
