When you hear the call “Txotx!” (pronounced “choach”) shouted in the traditional Sidrerias of Northern Spain, it’s time to gather ’round! Standing five feet back from the tapped barrel, patrons line up to catch the shooting cider into glasses—then toast the age-old tradition that adds the right amount of carbonation to the tart beverage. Lucky for you, there’s much to toast as you explore the sparkling seaside from Lisbon to Barcelona on this mostly coastal tour of Portugal and Northern Spain. This sunny vacation makes a splash with visits to the popular pilgrimage site of Santiago de Compostela, the famous seaside resort of San Sebastian, and in Pamplona, the legendary Calle Estafeta where the famous “running of the bulls” takes place. You’ll also want to make a beeline to the delicacies of each country, from the zesty paella of Spain to the sweet port of Portugal. Cheers! Salud! Txotx!

The tour Director and our driver were exceptionally good at their job by providing professional courteous service Our agent from Affordable Tours was extremely accommodating and returned phone calls expediently.
It was a wonderful trip in every sense of the word. Everything worked perfectly. It was an amazing experience.
Everything was delivered as expected. The tour director was amazing. I had a great tour. Thanks
The itinerary did match pretty well except for when we got to Barcelona. The Tour Director had to change the activities around. He failed to get entry tickets to the Sagrada Familia so we were unable to visit inside --only from outside . He claimed that most of the tickets had been given to the Barcelona people since there was a holiday celebration going on. Had the tickets been purchased ahead of time, we would have had the opportunity to get in. Many people (Australians) on the bus skipped some of the Globus activities and bought tickets online to visit the Sagrada Familia which was their reason on signing up on the tour. The rest of us were disappointed. Globus did compensate us by giving us a free tour to Montserrat which should appear as a credit on my credit card since I had paid in advance. The main point here is that we missed the opportunity to visit the Sagrada Familia inside which is a big deal. Additional time- an extra 30 minutes should have been given in Fatima; it would not have disrupted the itinerary at Porto (Oporto) Most of the accommodations were acceptable except for one--the Silken Reino De Aragon in Saragossa. It was undated-many old things, terrible and dangerous bath tub, small rooms, limited TV Channels, broken elevator but fixed on and off and poor breakfast. Two great hotels were Silken Amara Plaza and the Tryp Hotels. The driver was super OUSTANDING; drove safely, was caring, handled properly the extra luggage that some brought, courteous and very professional.
Great trip. Itinerary was very interesting and provided a good balance between planned and free time. Meals that were part of the package (lunch or dinner) was a good balance of hotel and restaurant and meals were good. Optional tours were good. Tour director (Ben) and driver were excellent and local tour guides were generally very good (there had obvious knowledge of the history, culture, arts, etc. of their area) although at times they offered too much detail. Hotels were clean and comfortable and breakfasts generally were good. Having taken a number of tours through Europe, and acknowledging that they are an important part of the history and culture, I think the operators could reduce the number of churches and cathedrals included in the tours.
Outstanding guide...some of the local guides not as good...most hotels of good quality...a couple were a little less than 4 star. Overall, a balanced and well coordinated tour.
Pleased with this trip. Guide was very knowledgeable. The driver was excellent. Itinerary and hotels were acceptable. Or travel agent John from Affordable Agency is amazing. We'r bok or trips with him every year. I'm a repeat and satisfied customer.
to.make tour more enrich needed at least 2 more days.one day was a waste .santander didnt do anything.not enough time in fatima and porto and zaragoza.prefer to do in future on own or thru smaller tours to get more of destination.recommend for older person the food and hotels and transport i guess is what you pay for.i am requesting a refund for one day thru globus for santander experience
The first day of the tour did not go without a hitch. Not entirely the fault of the "local" guide but it could have been mitigated more efficiently. A visit to one of the important site was cancelled. The tour went smoothly after that. As mentioned in the review given to the operator (after tour), some cities can be eliminated and some can be extended. Tips (although optional) should already be included for "local" guides and "optional" tours.
Me & my cousin were very satisfied with our trip package and the optional tours offered. The accommodations were great and the breakfast buffets were satisfactory. The tour guide & local tour guides did a great job, including our driver.
The accomadations in Portugal did not match my expectations, Rooms were too small. Years ago, my wife and I traveled to Southern Spain with Globus, the hotels were all five-star hotels. Breakfast have a lot of hot entries and all kinds of danish. Not this time.
There should be some time to allow for shopping
Many of the activities that were optional (extra charge) should have been included. The cities and sites were wonderful! The hotels were fine. There were more people in the group then the maximum I was told by a Globus representative. We had a few issues with the tour leader.
Overall a good trip, however uneven. First 3 days, great. Lisbon, Fatima, Oporto. Tour should stay 2 nights in Oporto, not 1. Days 4, 5, 6,7 kind of dragged. Very slow moving tours of the areas. Felt like the tour director and local tour guides were all trying to stretch out their tours to use us the allotted time. On day 7 we spent way too much time at the Altamira Neo Cave after which we drove to Bilbao and the Guggenheim Museum at which we did not spend enough time. Spent way too much time on the bus between Oviedo and San Sebastian. Days 8 thru 11 were great. Took 4 ofthe 7 optional tours. Excursion to Cascais , Cabo da Roca and the Magnificent Palace of Queluz was good. Excursion to La Coruna was disappointing. Visited the Tower of Hercules which as interesting and very scenic. Continuing on to Santa Cruz, Sada was a waste of time. It was a long bus ride in order to eat lunch. Not much to see. Beautiful Barcelona tour was good. I don't under stand why this was not included with the standard package. Barcelona is a big city. It showed the 1/2 of the city not covered in the standard group tour. Flamenco Evening with Diner was a lot of fun, however, overpriced. 84 Euro per person is a lot of money for a so-so buffet dinner and a 70 minute show but I guess when visiting Spain for the first time you should see a Flamenco show.
It was an excellent itinerary and well run
The Hotel accommodations were not to my expectations, The only so called 5 star Hotel was more on a Hostel level. The bed was like sleeping on a box string. The hallways wall paper was torn. This Hotel was in Portugal. This was miss leading, I have gone on other tours and stayed at 3 star hotel which were better. The tour it self was great, only wished we would have more time at locations visited. The tour guides and bus driver were GREAT!!!
Great Services and excellent Tour.
It was a great trip. I wanted to see Barcelona, but the rest of the itinerary was really great. The air scheduling worked very well and the on flight meals and drinks were excellent
I loved it. Fantastic tour director and driver. Can't say enough...wonderful!
Our Tour Director was fantastic. His knowledge of the countries (Portugal & Spain) that he shared was very thorough and well spoken. His demeanor with the tour group and individuals was beyond expectations. I would book another tour knowing he would be the tour guide. The driver has fantastic driving skill. He always had a smile on his face and helped us get on and off the bus. He was very attentive with my friend who had to use a walker. By the time we were off the bus, the walker was ready for her and when we were returning, he was ready to place it in the bus. Before the trip, I must give kudos to AffordableTours.com. They helped me tremendously. The agent was prompt and efficient with my questions and concerns.
We booked this trip in advance because we knew we wanted to go there. The Tour Director met us in the hotel where we came from the airport. Our group was age-wise significantly old and my husband and I were probably the youngest in the group. Meantime, the Tour Director sometimes did not consider this fact and tried to walk on the streets fast, which led our group to spread over few blocks trying to catch up with the head. I would suggest the director consider the age of group members next time. Overall, the tour was very interesting. We visited all sites described in the booklet and enjoyed them.
We went early and had 2 days on our own in Lisbon, which was fantastic. Many also stayed at the end in Barcelona. We loved the northern coast of Spain and let someone else do the driving
Accommodations were excellent. Bus and driver were first rate. Our tour director was charming, witty, extremely well versed, and efficient. Local guides were also very good.
Tour director was an outstanding Globus representative. Coach bus was exceptionally comfortable and clean, and the driver was experienced and excellent.
It was an average tour, tour guide was average at best, some hotels where great others ok, some food was great, other meals where fair to poor. Busdriver was great and experienced.
I've traveled with Globus/Cosmos since 1999. My experience has been so satisfactory I do not consider travel with any other. Tour directors and drivers are the best and I feel very safe as a solo traveler.
During my trip, the porter of the hotel damaged my suitcase. Their service department could not repair it, and they refused to buy me a new suitcase, and I had to buy a new suitcase at about 90 euros = 105 USDollars
Superior accomodations. Excellent presentation of cities visited.
This is a newer trip fro globus. Northern spain and portugal is not the best trip to take a tour. stick with central and souther spain. If you take this trip, you will then know were NOT to go! The rooms were inconsistent quality and locations were good and bad. Seems to have poor hotels for 2 nights, and the excellent hotels for 1 night.
This is one of the best tours we have ever taken. The itinerary for this tour could not possibly be any better. And the tour guide, driver, local guides and hotels were above expectations. We strongly suggest that if you want to see Northern Portugal and Spain, take this tour. You will not be disappointed.
