Great trip!
We didn't spend as much time as I was lead to believe on Manchu Picchu. Also, we paid for a room the last night and got to spend 15 minutes in the room. Poor choice in booking of the flight home.
I got to my hotel at 1:30 in the morning and had a wake up call at 4:00 AM to board a plane to Cusco.. The second day I had another 4:00 wake up cal to board a bus and train to Machu Picchu. The itinerary was downright abusive, I could not sleep the first night even for the hour and a half I was allotted. After arriving in Lima we should have stayed here at least 1 day instead of getting up at 4:00 to board a plane to Cusco. In addition in the Sacred Valley our hotel for the group was changed due to your overbooking. We were sent to another hotel where the entire group froze all night and again couldn't sleep. There was a small portable space heater in the room that did not keep anyone warm. The high altitudes affected everyone. Machu Picchu was only 8,000 feet but Cusco where we spent 3 1/2 days and 3 nights was over 13,000 feet. The affects of the high altitude should be more emphasized in the brochure. I needed oxygen which is regularly supplied by the hotel every day in Cusco. People had nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, light headed ness, dizziness, no energy to keep going, and general malaise. I didn't speak to anyone of the 33 who were not affected by the altitude. Possibly spending 2 days instead of 3 in Cusco might help to alleviate this. And if you spent the second day in Lima instead of getting up at 4:00 people might be more able to handle the affects with sleep, food, and less physical stress to their bodies.
Our itinerary had to be changed due to an impending protest, even we lost one day at the Sacred Valley, we managed to get to Machu Picchu and stayed at a very nice hotel (without elevator though). We really appreciated the fact that Globus was able to make such quick adjustments so we still get to achieve our objective.
