The “Big 5”—lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and Cape buffalo await you on this ultimate safari through East Africa. Featuring unique lodges and tented camps, custom-made 4-wheel-drive safari vehicles, and exclusive meals in the bush, this Kenya and Tanzania tour promises larger than life experiences and countless memories. You’ll savor the unique terrain and wildlife at seven renowned national parks, reserves, and conservancies, including the famous Maasai Mara National Reserve, and the vast, volcanic Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Beyond sightings of the “Big 5,” be on the lookout for cheetah, wildebeest, crocodile, hippo, and rhino. On the tamer side, you’ll also enjoy a visit to the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary as well as the endearing experience of interacting with local children at a primary school in Karatu.Add more to your Africa tour in Nairobi. Feeding endangered giraffes at the Giraffe Center, meeting orphaned elephant calves at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, and visiting the former home of Out of Africa author Karen Blixen are just a few highlights! A Small Group Discovery tour to go wild for!

You’ll also visit the Giraffe Centre, followed by free time this evening.

In partnership with the Kenya Wildlife Service and the Jane Goodall Institute, the sanctuary offers a long-term home to orphaned and abused chimpanzees—a moving example of wildlife conservation for future generations. For the welfare of the chimps who call the sanctuary home, our small group visits are broken into groups of six, also affording a more personal visit for our guests.

After lunch at your lodge, set out on an afternoon game drive.

    TOUR HIGHLIGHT
SUNDOWNER DRINKS This evening, as the sun sets with “Kili” as the backdrop, savor a memorable happy hour in the bush! The origin of the tradition dates to British colonialism in Africa in the 18th century and was born out of necessity rather than enjoyment. Containing quinine-infused tonic and gin, colonizers drank it to ward off malaria. As the British Empire expanded into Africa, the popularity of gin and tonic spread with it. Today, Sundowners mark the transition from day to night.

  12. Day 12
    NGORONGORO
    Into Africa’s Eden
Descend into the crater for a full-day game drive. Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s largest unflooded caldera, more than 2,000 feet deep with a floor covering over 102 square miles. Game viewing here is fantastic, as most of the animals stay in this area year-round. This is your best chance to see the rare black rhinoceros, lion, Cape buffalo, hippo, elephants, and a variety of birds during this extraordinary experience. An exclusive [LF] bush lunch will be served in the crater.

    (B,L,D)

    LOCAL FAVORITE
SMALL GROUP EXCLUSIVE Because of the time it takes to descend into and ascend out of the crater, it’s common to eat lunch in the crater. While standard safari fare is typically a cold box lunch, your small group is treated to an exclusive, freshly cooked bush BBQ lunch served under a grove of Acacia trees, while not missing a moment of wildlife viewing time.

    On the Endless Plains
Drive to Serengeti National Park, Tanzania’s largest and most famous park. The Serengeti covers an area of roughly 5,700 square miles. The name comes from the Maasai word siringit, meaning “endless plains.” Enjoy lunch at your tented camp before an afternoon game drive. You have the chance to see the big cats—lion, leopard, and cheetah—as well as an abundance of other animals, including the Nile crocodile, giraffe, gazelle, and eland. You may even spot a caracal, a rare, beautiful cat with distinctive ears and strong hind legs.

There’s always room to roam with extra space between you and other travelers—while still getting up close and personal to the experiences you’ve been dreaming of. Small-Group Discoveries include all the features of a traditional Globus escorted tour, complete with expert Tour Director, Driver, and Local Guides who ensure that your health and safety is our top priority. A Small-Group Discovery trip is the perfectly sized tour—without the crowds.

The Great Migration is a natural event with herds typically in the Maasai Mara from August to early November. Movements and river crossings of migrating herds can be challenging to predict year to year. When possible, we’ll modify game viewing when advised of reported sightings. Since this safari includes Kenya’s Maasai Mara National Reserve and Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park, you’re guaranteed to see the herds no matter when you visit. All game viewing is done at your own risk and requires a signed liability waiver prior to travel. Due to rough driving on/off road and in/between game parks, this vacation is not recommended for guests with serious back problems or mobility issues.

We had knowledgeable and friendly staff with Globus but the Kenya tour director was a lot more organized than the Tanzania tour director. The Globus itinerary says that "they always have water hole front tents at the Sweetwater Camp. This is not true. It is based on availability and were we disappointed in that. There is much more driving between parks than we expected; 4 to 6 hours. The roads are very rough and dusty. Having said this, the animals we saw were magnificent and the trip was the adventure of a lifetime. The luggage issue of 33 lbs had us all stressed out and we shouldn't have been as the small airports do not weigh it. Most of us were a few pounds over.

The Globus Kenya and Tanzania safari experience was outstanding. We had one Globus tour director for Kenya and one for Tanzania. Andrew in Kenya and Gabriel in Tanzania. Both were outstanding and made the trip run perfectly. The itinerary is BUSY, but that was to be expected. The accommodations at the safari lodges and tent camps exceeded our expectations. Globus arranged for three bush meals and a sundowner party that greatly added to the experience. The only complaint we have was the Globus-recommended optional Masai Mara hot air ballon safari. It was to be an hour long. It lasted 20 minutes despite our pilot trying to convince us that it was 40 minutes. We had an unexpected landing in the middle that the pilot said was due to winds. The food at the included hot air balloon bush breakfast was terrible and the so-called wash room was a disgusting joke. It was a complete waste of $900 for two and a complete waste of time. Only 4 from our Globus group took the trip and we all heard from the guests that they were glad that they did not participate. Despite that one unfortunate experience this safari was outstanding and We whole-heartedly recommend it to anyone, but do NOT book the optional hot air ballon safari.

The itinerary for Kenya and Tanzania Safari plus the extra day in Nairobi was excellent. Our group of 10 thought it was great! The accommodations, game drives, tour guides, drivers, local favorites were outstanding. We were impressed with our tour guides and our tour drivers for their excellent knowledge of the wildlife and the African culture. The tents and lodges were beautiful, food was great, so many animals to see on the different game drives, the local favorites were very enjoyable and quite a learning experience, and of course the scenery was beautiful. We chose to go in September 2017 to see the wildebeest migration and we were not disappointed. A truly magnificent sight to see. We also enjoyed a hot air balloon which took us up about 15 ft. high so we could enjoy viewing the animals not far down below. I have always enjoyed my past trips with Globus and will continue to book future trips with them.
