The origin of the tradition dates to British colonialism in Africa in the 18th century and was born out of necessity rather than enjoyment. Containing quinine-infused tonic and gin, colonizers drank it to ward off malaria. As the British Empire expanded into Africa, the popularity of gin and tonic spread with it. Today, Sundowners mark the transition from day to night. AMBOSELI-MOUNT-KILIMANJARO-ELEPHANTS.jpg

This is your best chance to see the rare black rhinoceros, lion, Cape buffalo, hippo, elephants, and a variety of birds during this extraordinary experience. An exclusive [LF] bush lunch will be served in the crater. (B,L,D)LOCAL FAVORITESMALL GROUP EXCLUSIVE Because of the time it takes to descend into and ascend out of the crater, it’s common to eat lunch in the crater. While standard safari fare is typically a cold box lunch, your small group is treated to an exclusive, freshly cooked bush BBQ lunch served under a grove of Acacia trees, while not missing a moment of wildlife viewing time. Questions & Answers Ask A Question
Question: How many suitcases can I take with me on my trip?
Question: Is Airfare Included in the Price?
The Globus Kenya and Tanzania safari experience was outstanding. We had one Globus tour director for Kenya and one for Tanzania. Andrew in Kenya and Gabriel in Tanzania. Both were outstanding and made the trip run perfectly. The itinerary is BUSY, but that was to be expected. The accommodations at the safari lodges and tent camps exceeded our expectations. Globus arranged for three bush meals and a sundowner party that greatly added to the experience. The only complaint we have was the Globus-recommended optional Masai Mara hot air ballon safari. It was to be an hour long. It lasted 20 minutes despite our pilot trying to convince us that it was 40 minutes. We had an unexpected landing in the middle that the pilot said was due to winds. The food at the included hot air balloon bush breakfast was terrible and the so-called wash room was a disgusting joke. It was a complete waste of $900 for two and a complete waste of time. Only 4 from our Globus group took the trip and we all heard from the guests that they were glad that they did not participate. Despite that one unfortunate experience this safari was outstanding and We whole-heartedly recommend it to anyone, but do NOT book the optional hot air ballon safari.
The itinerary for Kenya and Tanzania Safari plus the extra day in Nairobi was excellent. Our group of 10 thought it was great! The accommodations, game drives, tour guides, drivers, local favorites were outstanding. We were impressed with our tour guides and our tour drivers for their excellent knowledge of the wildlife and the African culture. The tents and lodges were beautiful, food was great, so many animals to see on the different game drives, the local favorites were very enjoyable and quite a learning experience, and of course the scenery was beautiful. We chose to go in September 2017 to see the wildebeest migration and we were not disappointed. A truly magnificent sight to see. We also enjoyed a hot air balloon which took us up about 15 ft. high so we could enjoy viewing the animals not far down below. I have always enjoyed my past trips with Globus and will continue to book future trips with them.

We had knowledgeable and friendly staff with Globus but the Kenya tour director was a lot more organized than the Tanzania tour director. The Globus itinerary says that "they always have water hole front tents at the Sweetwater Camp. This is not true. It is based on availability and were we disappointed in that. There is much more driving between parks than we expected; 4 to 6 hours. The roads are very rough and dusty. Having said this, the animals we saw were magnificent and the trip was the adventure of a lifetime. The luggage issue of 33 lbs had us all stressed out and we shouldn't have been as the small airports do not weigh it. Most of us were a few pounds over.
