This particular trip with Trafalgar was less satisfying than the previous 4 trips with them. Reasons: too much bus travel between cities with too few breaks that included interesting sightseeing or lunch locations, and a tour director that was much less communicative, friendly and entertaining than with all prior Trafalgar trips. Also, the itinerary was a misleading with regards to certain points of interest we would be seeing. On major point of interest we were to see did NOT include getting inside, as I would have anticipated (The Alhambra in Granada). Itinerary said we would see it - this occurred when they pointed it out in the distance at a picture stop. It wasn\t even offered as an optional excursion. Otherwise, the sights in each city were pretty spectacular.
Based on my fabulous trip in 2017, I booked this trip. Here is the synopsis for this trip: BUS OPERATOR: Excellent driver; felt safe at all times; a true professional and gentlemen. TOUR GUIDE: 1) A slow start, then progressed as time went on. 2) Did not have Orientation and materials (i.e., Welcome Letter with general information, Optional Tour list with cost, some menus, etc) upon arrival on Sunday, just name tag and luggage tag. 3) He used his Portugese accent when pronouncing some Spanish words. 4) He is a nice chap, but was not as organized as he should be. TRAFALGAR: Charged too much for Optional Tours and so much of the trip was based on Optional Tours. This was very disappointing. Taking all into consideration, this particular trip was overpriced.
The Great Iberian Cities tour through Trafalgar was terrific. It's not as crazily fast-paced as other tours, letting you spend 2 nights in every hotel/city. A fantastic mix of culture, food, art, music, monuments, and history, with the right amount of free time built in. And with the Optional Experiences setup, you have the ability to further customize your experience. The hotels were great (for the most part comfortable, and breakfasts delicious), and the bus was very comfortable as well. On long journeys, you stop every 1.5-2 hours for bathroom breaks. Mikael was a great tour guide - knowledgeable, friendly, and looked after everyone. The local specialists really knew their stuff, and our driver Luis was a magician behind the wheel.
