This morning, depart for Ankara, the capital and the second largest city of Turkey. En route, stop at the village of Avanos, famous for its pottery making tradition. Upon arrival in Ankara, visit the Mausoleum of Kemal Ataturk, founder and first president of the Turkish Republic. Leading up to the Mausoleum, also known as the Anitkabir, lies a vast brick courtyard and monumental avenue lined with NeoHittite stone statues and cenotaphs beneath its colonnades. The most noted cenotaphs within the complex are those of General Ismet Inonu, a close comrade of Ataturk's and his successor, and that of Ataturk himself, a large and highly decorative marble cenotaph, beneath which lies his tomb. Continue to the Anatolian Civilizations Museum, built in two Ottoman buildings located near Ankara Castle. The Affordable Turkey trip by Gate1 covers an astounding amount of miles, filled with amazing sights and history. It was a great experience, enhanced by our Tour Manager, who brought everything to life. The hotels were very comfortable and modern, the food was delicious, the bus was top-notch (as was our driver). Be prepared for lots of time on the bus, with frequent stops along the way. Walking at some of the sites was challenging (rugged and uneven), but individuals were able to bypass/skip the most rigorous paths.
We have booked multiple trips with Gate 1 over the years and have always been very pleased with the staff, services, accommodations and the pricing. However, on this particular trip to Turkey we feel the we were Highly overcharged for an excursion. This was an excursion in Capadocia for a ballon ride. Gate 1 charged us $269 per person for this. After looking through the internet at all the various companies' rates for the sane exact activity, we found the typical charge person ranged from $79-$89!!! Needless to say this was extremely disappointing and we were quite displeased about being overcharged by so much. We understand that Gate 1 has to make money from the excursion they offer, but a 300% uncharge in my opinion equates to highway robbery!!!!!
Our tour guide Taner was extremely knowledgeable, well organized, helpful and fun! The accommodations and food were lovely. We found a whole experience to be exciting and an excellent tour on the whole
Turkey is an absolutely beautiful, spotless country with a great ancient history and wonderful friendly people. Some of it's monuments/sites are unique and can not be seen anywhere else in the world. I have travelled extensively and highly recommend a trip to Turkey.
This was an excellent tour. Turkey has a lot to offer and the hotels are very good. Our guide was excellent.The only concern with the trip was the number of hours spent on the bus. We went over 2000 miles. This was at near 5 hours per day average.

The trip was much more than i expected. Even though we had a relatively large group all activities ran very smoothly. The guide was extremely knowledgeable and informative. He answered questions easily and thoroughly. Several stops on the tour showed the life of the Turkish people.
