Review: Kenya, A Timeless Safari With Nairobi With Globus

By: Moe Walker, Senior Travel Consultant & CTA

Kenya, A Timeless Safari With Nairobi with Globus, is a small group, low action packed safari, that gets you up close and personal with the native people from the Samburu and Maasai Mara Villages. Each day is filled with morning and afternoon game drives, putting you on the hunt for the “Big 5” and other animals indigenous to the Kenyan land.  This is a great tour for animal and nature lovers alike, offering a beautiful landscape that is sure to be a photographer’s dream.

Traveling to Kenya definitely required at least 1 day to get acclimated to the time change. My family and I enjoyed a pre night at the Nairobi Serena Hotel where the first night of the tour was spent. Pre nights are always highly recommended.

Day 1 was an amazing day that allowed the group to get a later start after meeting our tour director. First stop, The Rothschild’s Giraffe Center, a nonprofit organization that focuses on saving baby giraffes. The center prepares them to enter back into the wild after being rescued from harsh environments.

At the Giraffe Center, we were privileged to feed the lovable gentle babies by hand or mouth. Some chose the latter; I stuck to feeding them by hand.

After a quick bonding session with the lovely giraffes, we had the pleasure of visiting the Sheldrick elephant orphanage, founded and managed by Daphne Sheldrick herself. Here, we met baby elephants that were rescued from unimaginable situations. These calves were orphaned either because the mother was killed by poachers and left alone, some had been rescued because they were trapped in a well or just found alone with no way to fend for themselves.

Either way we salute the Sheldrick Organization for rescuing these young but gentle giants from horrible abandonment and nursing them back to health that will allow them to be productive in their natural habitats.

Day 3 of our Kenyan Safari with Nairobi with Globus, we depart Nairobi and began our search for the “Big 5”.  Lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and cape buffalo. But first lunch is well deserved at the famed Mount Kenya Safari Club, that offered a beautiful view of Mount Kenya.

After lunch we were off to the Samburu National Reserve. Our first siting was of an elephant that came so close to our vehicle, all breaths were taken away as we scurried to take pictures before he ran off into the hills.

This was an astonishing site to see.

Getting deeper into the Samburu village we had the opportunity to meet some of the Samburu people. They welcomed us with open arms and preformed a song and dance. As the women dressed us with their hand made jewels, the men then came and took each female visitor by hand as they sang in their native tongue.

After learning so much we proceeded to our home for the next 2 days the Sarova Shaba Game Lodge. Right before entering, we spot # 2 of the Big 5, the leopard.
