- Day 1PragueMon, Jun 09, 2025
Prague is known as the “City of a Hundred Spires” and it is easy to see why. The towering twin steeples of Týn Church and the beautiful baroque Church of St. Nicholas are among some of the city’s most notable. Best explored on foot, Prague’s Old Town is a maze of ancient cobblestone lanes with the Old Town Square at its core. Here, the medieval Astronomical Clock still chimes today and provides for its viewers a little theater with the “Walk of the Apostles” on the hour, every hour.

- Day 4DresdenThu, Jun 12, 2025
Dresden is awash in artistic treasures and baroque splendor. The city is blessed with water meadows and green parks near the center, giving it a wide-open feeling and making it easy to focus on the beautiful sandstone buildings that line the river. It took Dresden more than 50 years to rebuild after it was devastated during Allied bombing. Most agree it was certainly worth the wait. The city has been lovingly restored to its original glory, from the ornate Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady) and grand Semper Opera House to the shining Zwinger Palace.

- Day 6MeissenSat, Jun 14, 2025
Surrounded by idyllic wine villages and set at a rocky spur on the Elbe, Meissen dates back more than a thousand years. The city is dominated by its 13th- and 14th-century Gothic cathedrals and Albrechtsburg Castle, perched on a low hill, considered one of the great achievements of German architecture. The introduction of porcelain here by Johann Friedrich Böttger in the early 18th century made Meissen world famous. Meissenware has been produced here ever since. Across the city, the chimes of the Gothic Church of Our Lady’s bells can be heard; they were the first church bells made of porcelain.
- Day 7WittenbergSun, Jun 15, 2025
Wittenberg is an important center of culture and learning, known mostly as the birthplace of the Protestant Reformation. It was here that the Augustinian monk Martin Luther famously nailed his “95 Theses” against the selling of indulgences to the door of the palace church in 1517, launching the spread of a new religious movement throughout Europe. Wittenberg’s incredibly preserved Old Town was spared destruction during World War II, and so its charming houses remain as they have for centuries, with those in the market square huddled around the beloved statue of Luther.
- Day 8BerlinMon, Jun 16, 2025
After a decades-long postwar rift, Germany’s capital has been reunified and undergone a remarkable rebirth as a center of art, culture and great architecture. It is still riding the wave of its newfound energy, and exploring its streets feels akin to browsing a newly opened museum. Risen from the ashes of war, many of its buildings that once stood for division now embrace unity. Among them, the Reichstag parliament building embodies a new transparency with its glass dome, and the city’s Museum Island celebrates self-expression and creativity.

Questions & Answers Ask A Question
Question: Will the day-by-day itinerary change?
Question: In what language is the river cruise conducted?
The trip was everything we expected plus more because we also were fortunate to have perfect weather the entire time. The Viking staff is always exceptional. All tour guides on the excursions we selected were excellent, well informed and helpful. Our tour director, was a master of organization and attentiveness. We cannot come up with any complaints.
Tour behind the previous Iron Curtain¦..something I never thought would be possible. Sobering historical tours. Beautiful landscape. Wonderful art
The cabin was smaller than what we expected based on previous cruises with other operators. The staff was great. The included tours were average. We would have liked more walking tours but realize that would be difficult in large cities. We thought the Prague walking tour was poor. The Regent Hotel in Berlin was great. Nice room and convenient location. The Hilton in Prague was ok. The room setup was had little storage space, and the bathroom was small with no space around the sink for toiletries. The modern decor was aesthetically pleasing, but not very functional.
The cruise segment was very nice; however, the Sheraton hotel in Berlin disappointed us in lack of inadequate charging connections for our phones. The Prague Hilton was superior in such amenities and other services. Our cruise director, Simon, was outstanding. Our return flights had too many connections and especially delays in departures which resulted in missing flight connections. Delta was several hours late leaving Amsterdam and again leaving Detroit. Having to leave our hotel in Prague at 3:00 am to start our travel home was difficult, but all the flight delays made it even more exhausting. Overall, we had a wonderful time and sincerely appreciate Derek and Affordable Tours for arranging our trip.
This was our 5th river cruise on Viking. We loved this last one as well as all the previous cruises. Viking is very consistent and you know exactly what to expect and you get it. Total care from pick up at the airport to start the tour through to helping with departure at the airport at the end of the tour. The excursions, the cabin, the food, the crew. Absolutely fantastic. Wonderful company.
Food was great. Some outside tour guides were not up to our expectations.
Viking is well organized, efficient and just pleasant. Their tour director is one of the best we’ve encountered.
