Capital of the Aquitaine region, Bordeaux is celebrated for its thoughtfully preserved 18th-century architecture. Together, its glorious buildings, many of them built on the wine trade, comprise the world's largest urban UNESCO World Heritage Site. Today, honored as a City of Art and History, Bordeaux is a "Little Paris” of beautiful boulevards, Gothic and baroque churches, and lovely parks and gardens. - Day 3LibourneTue, Mar 31, 2026
Built as a fortified town intended to help colonize the wilderness areas of southwestern France, Libourne has hugged the confluence of the Dordogne and Isle Rivers since 1270. Libourne was founded and named by Roger de Leybourne under the English Crown and King Edward I. Later, the town was caught in the middle of struggles between the French and English in the 14th century; England's loss was France's gain when it joined the latter. Today, Libourne enjoys a respected status as a wine-making capital of northern Gironde and hosts one of the area's largest fresh food markets.
- Day 4BlayeWed, Apr 01, 2026
A producer of fine red wines, the scenic town of Blaye rests on the Gironde River, just north of Bordeaux. Blaye boasts an extraordinary 17th-century citadel, dramatically set on a rock along the river. The sprawling fortress was built on the orders of King Louis XIV to protect Bordeaux, upstream on the Garonne River. Its ancient Gothic château contains the tomb of Charibert II, King of Aquitaine. Legend has it that the Frankish hero Roland, who served Charlemagne, is also buried here. The citadel, its city walls and two nearby forts comprise a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
- Day 5Médoc & Margaux Wine CountryThu, Apr 02, 2026
Cussac-Fort-Médoc is a gateway to the Médoc wine country, home to the famed wine growing villages of Pauillac, Margaux, Saint-Estèphe and Saint-Julien. Collectively, they produce some of the world’s most prestigious wines with four of the five Premier cru classé hailing from the Médoc region; Château Margaux, Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Latour and Château Mouton Rothschild. In addition, there are 60 Grand cru classé vineyards and many more incredible wineries, each offering insight into their rich winemaking heritage that has been passed on for generations.

- Day 7Scenic Sailing: Garonne RiverSat, Apr 04, 2026
Though its name may not be familiar, the Garonne River is among the most beloved waterways in the world of wine lovers. As you sail its languid waters, gaze upon gentle hills laden with vineyards and riverside outcroppings dotted with honey-colored castles that share long histories of skirmishes. Sleepy French villages set the tone of life along the Garonne, where a slow pace and gentle patience serve the wine-growing industry well. Fishing is also prevalent along the river’s banks; you will pass some of the many carrelets (small fishing huts) hugging the shores.

Questions & Answers Ask A Question
Question: Will the day-by-day itinerary change?
Question: In what language is the river cruise conducted?
We've enjoyed excellent service from several different Affordable Tours agents over the years, but Jim Leary has been the best by far. He is knowledgeable, courteous, professional, and always promptly attentive in responding to our inquiries and requests. We will continue to seek out his assistance with our travel needs and recommend him to our friends and family members without reservation.
Great trip
Very accommodating and great attention to details. Very easy and efficient. Excellent service.
Viking service was extraordinary, especially at the very end of the trip when our guide took us all the way through Dr Gaulle airport to the check-in desk and even printed out our boarding passes for us. Tremendous service.
We had a wonderful experience on this tour as we did on our first on the Rhine. The staff and all of the guides were so helpful and so knowledgeable. Thank you for another fun filled vacation ! ! !
This was our fourth trip with Viking. Wed don't see any reason to switch brands.
Viking was first class in every way. Great staff, food was extraordinary, good tours daily.
We had very good experience with the Viking crews. They ran the program efficiently, and the staff were all very courteous. The waiters were exceptional; the one serving us went out of his way to ensure we had a wonderful journey. With the exception of Bordeaux City, St. Emilion, and Pauillac that seem interesting, the other cities did not offer much. Also, the river is so short that there wasn't much to see from the cruise.
Our river tour with Viking was one the best vacation experiences we have ever had. The services and people were delightful, accommodations were more than adequate and food aboard was excellent. We also did the Paris extension and found the Viking representatives to be most helpful in all aspects of stay, even to the point of departure. Our only negative would be our hotel stay. Being centrally located, the accommodations while being spacious were inefficient. There wasn't any convenient storage for clothing or bed side articles. All belongs had be stored in closet shelves or remain in your bag, no dressers to store underwear or other personal items. The other issue was, the hotel staff had opened our safe and never mentioned it to us. It appeared the person who stay in our room previously had thought she left her keys in the safe and the staff had opened the safe to check. We know this because she call later asking us to check the safe content. We thought there was a problem with safe after finding it open when returning from dinner.
The trip was well organized and the company provided wonderful service.
Had a Transfer pass in packet but Viking did not show up to pick us up at airport. Had to find own transportation and after much conversation did get reimbursed.
Our booking went flawlessly. The trip was excellent. We have already booked our next Viking Cruise with Affordable Tours.
We have done 8 Viking cruises, this crew was the best of the 8.
