Cities Visited

Hanoi , Ho Chi Minh City , Hoi An , Hue , Nha Trang

  1. Day 1
    Start Ho Chi Minh City
Welcome to Ho Chi Minh city, formerly known as Saigon. This is one of Asia's most exhilarating cities, steeped in grand history and post-Vietnam war memories. This evening you'll meet your travel comrades and explore the Ben Thanh markets, offering the freshest traditional Bánh mì, Pho and Bia h?i. Oh yes, this is the right way to get the Vietnam trip started.Accommodation: Vien Dong Hotel (or similar)
  2. Day 2
Ho Chi Minh City To Mekong Delta
Today we leave Ho Chi Minh exchanging fast paced city life for an energy that's a little more quaint. Such is the contrasting beauty of Vietnam. Though this isn't the first time we are seeing the Mekong Delta, our journey in a traditional boat will prove just how dramatically this river's fringes can vary. We'll see floating markets, visit a rice paper factory and sip some of Vietnam's famous rice whiskey. A home-cooked meal and local musicians will round off our day as we settle in for a night at a local guesthouse.Accommodation: Bay Thoi Homestay (or similar)
    Meals:   Breakfast   Lunch   Dinner
  3. Day 3
Mekong Delta To Ho Chi Minh City
After an early breakfast we'll make our way back to Ho Chi Minh, detouring past Viet Cong’s Cu Chi Tunnels. See traps, hidden doors & some of the 250kms of tunnels that Vietnamese resistance fighters dug by hand, and even go down into the skinny tunnels to experience them first hand in this look into Vietnam's staggering past.  Back in the addictive mayhem of Vietnam's biggest city you will have free time to carry on your explorations. Continuing to eat your way through Vietnam's culinary highlights would be one wise way to use your time (we think).Accommodation: Vien Dong Hotel (or similar)
    Meals:   Breakfast
  4. Day 4
Ho Chi Minh City To Nha Trang
With some traditional R'n'R on our afternoon agenda, the morning can be used to put on our discovering boots. We'll dabble in history and religion before taking flight to a coastal town overlooking the South China Sea. Golden sand beaches, turquoise waters and a bustling night life - this is Nha Trang. This afternoon why not book in for a mineral mud bath and hot thermal spring experience before heading out to dinner with your crew. Ah, the good life.Accommodation: Vien Dong Hotel (or similar)
    Meals:   Breakfast
  5. Day 5
    Nha Trang
Good news - we're kicking it in Nha Trang for another night. Have a massage, sign up for the optional cruise, or just hang on the beach saving your energy for seaside bar fun as the sun sets.Accommodation: Vien Dong Hotel (or similar)
    Meals:   Breakfast
  6. Day 6
    Nha Trang To Hoi'An
After a zippy flight north & a short coastal drive we find ourselves in a canal town overflowing with beauty and ancient history. With Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese and European influences, Hoi An has no shortage of charm and architectural interest. Bike riding through the vibrant town, visiting an ancient house & ordering custom-made clothes at an artful tailor are just some of the activities that will color our day. Tonight you can opt onto a Vietnamese cooking class, whipping up a storm of up to 4 traditional dishes.Accommodation: Le Pavillon Paradise Hoi An Hotel & Spa (or similar)
    Meals:   Breakfast
  7. Day 7
    Hoi'An
Visit the stunning Marble Mountain to learn more about religion in Vietnam, poke around in galleries & market stalls - the best shopping in Vietnam in our opinion, and devour all of the delectable treats on offer. That's how your free day in Hoi An could roll.Accommodation: Le Pavillon Paradise Hoi An Hotel & Spa (or similar)
    Meals:   Breakfast
  8. Day 8
    Hoi'An To Hue
Though we'll have grown content with Hoi An life, this morning the show must go on. After all, the former imperial town of Hue has invited us over, and we'd be foolish to turn it down. Intricately decorated pavilions, lotus flower ponds, and colorful artworks mark our first sightseeing venture in Hue. Totally in awe of the Imperial Palace, we move on to the 7-story Thien Mu Pagoda & learn of the horrific history of the Hue Buddhist massacre as well as taking in a cyclo ride to see the city from a whole new angle.Accommodation: The Asia Hotel (or similar)
    Meals:   Breakfast
  9. Day 9
    Hue To Hanoi
Today we fly out of Hue in the direction of Vietnam's time capsule capital. A trio of influences and filled with romance, 2 nights here will see us utterly smitten. With an epic fusion of French, Chinese & Vietnamese influence, you'll easily fall in love with Hanoi. Our time will be spent weaving through a maze of 36 trading streets filled with colorful goods for sale, and unwinding in the walled gardens of the Temple of Literature. Later, why not take a stroll to the famous Train Street for an egg coffee or check out the quirky shows at the Water Puppet Theater before topping the night off with a few Bia Hoi's.Accommodation: Hanoi Larosa Hotel (or similar)
    Meals:   Breakfast
  10. Day 10
    Hanoi To Halong Bay
After a Hanoi history 101 lesson we move on to Halong Bay where a night on a UNESCO World Heritage-listed site awaits. A drive through stunning scenery will evoke plenty of 'oh wow's, but it only gets better as we board our home for the night, a Chinese-style junk boat in Halong Bay. Feel the serenity kicking in immediately as we drift the limestone island seas of the Gulf of Tonkin. We will pass hidden lagoons, thick forests & dreamy grottos. A fresh seafood dinner and sunset at our docking spot will polish off a wonderful day packed with No Regrets moments and simply unforgettable experiences.Accommodation: Junk Boat (Special Stay)
    Meals:   Breakfast   Lunch   Dinner
  11. Day 11
    Halong Bay To Hanoi
Today will be all about the leisurely vibes as we wake up to breakfast with a quick stop to explore the Sung Sot Caves. Make the most of your time on the junk boat - the views don't get much better than this. After heading back to Hanoi we find ourselves enjoying our final night together on tour. Save the choir of tears for tomorrow - this evening is all about making the most of your free time and staying positive so why not join us for one last family dinner and then onto Ta Hien to dance the night away.Accommodation: Hanoi Larosa Hotel (or similar)
    Meals:   Breakfast   Lunch
  12. Day 12

Enjoy one final breakfast with the squad this morning before this epic Vietnam trip wraps up. Hug it out and make plans to reunite sometime soon - Latin America, perhaps?

FAQs

  • Danang: The visa requirements for entering Vietnam will change depending on: - The length of your visit - The purpose of your visit - Your country of origin Visit https://www.contiki.com/resources/visas-guide to find the visa requirements for your specific situation.
  • Danang: This will depend on what you want to do and which part of the country you plan to visit. Generally, April - May is thought to be the best time to visit Vietnam because of the weather. December - March is a slightly cooler period, so could be ideal for hiking trips or city-dwelling. July - August is classed as Vietnam’s high season and sees the largest number of tourists enter the country, while low season runs from April - June and September - November. Contiki operates trips to Vietnam all year round, so whichever time works best for you, you can always book a spot with us.
  • Danang: The currency used in Vietnam is the Vietnamese dong (?). 1 US dollar equates to around 23,585?.
  • Danang: Vietnam is renowned for its food! You’ll find plenty of street food stop-offs, serving up freshly made gems including rice, noodle and battered pancake-based dishes, plus the world-famous Pho. Pork is a common feature of Vietnamese cuisine. Generally, Vietnamese food isn’t too spicy (except if your dish has fresh chillies in it!) Oh, and the best thing about the food here? It’s very very cheap.
  • Danang: When you travel with Contiki, your accommodation, in-country transport and breakfasts are all included with the cost of your trip – so when it comes to budgeting, you only need to worry about your spending money. Vietnam is heralded as an extremely affordable tourist destination too (depending on flights of course!) . As a rough guide, you should easily get by on $50-80 a day.
  • Danang: It’s customary for your shoulders to be covered in Vietnam – and this will be insisted on in some of the more traditional tourist spots. Local Vietnamese women tend to wear swimming costumes instead of bikinis, but it’s generally accepted for tourists to dress in the swimwear of their choice. The country also gets very hot and humid (especially during the summer), so make sure you pack lots of loose-fitting clothes made from a lightweight and breathable material. Big up the baggy shirts!
  • Danang: Tipping is pretty common in Vietnam’s tourism and hospitality sectors. Usually you’ll pay 10% of the total bill, which will amount to roughly $1-5.

  • Ho Chi Minh City: A meaningful reminder of the atrocities of the Vietnam War and its impact on local people and wildlife.
  • Ho Chi Minh City: Passports at the ready folks.

  • Hoi An: Immerse yourself in all the crazy sights and sounds, then take a photo by the ornate Japanese bridge.
  • Hoi An: This 15th century port and UNESCO site is best explored on two wheels with a local expert. Don’t forget your Go-Pro!

Health and Safety Protocols for Contiki Tours

Contiki has introduced these enhanced hygiene protocols – for you and team members.

You can travel with Contiki and be assured that their team has put numerous new measures in place to elevate their hygiene standards and protocols. The well-being of guests and team has always been, and always will be, their primary concern.

In this new, fast changing Covid-19 era, Contiki is doing all they can to adapt to new requirements and expectations. Here are some important new steps and procedures that they have implemented to enhance hygiene protocols, to comply with physical distancing requirements by relevant government authorities and to give you the peace of mind when you are traveling during these new times.

Expertly Trained Travel Directors

Travel Director training equips them with enhanced hygiene and physical distancing procedures. During your trip, they will operate with a duty of care and monitor the hygiene etiquette of the guests, reacting and advising as needed, to ensure high standards are maintained. Before you travel, Contiki will also keep you well informed about new protocols required in these areas, and ask that you cooperate with and heed the advice and direction of Travel Directors while on your trip. The Travel Directors have preventative measures in place to try and ensure your well-being and in the event that any unexpected issues arise on trip, they will activate additional protocols.

Stringent On-the-Road Protocols

The customized luxury coaches are sanitised before the start of your trip and have always been kept to very high standards. Following the outbreak of COVID-19, Contiki have taken additional measures to elevate hygiene and sanitary practices in accordance with guidance from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and as required, applicable government regulations. The Driver training provides them with the latest hygiene protocols. They will clean and disinfect all surfaces including handrails, door handles, tables, seats, air-conditioning filters and overhead lockers on a daily basis. All the guests are asked to follow hygiene practices recommended by the World Health Organisation including the thorough and regular washing of hands and sanitising when required. Hand sanitiser is freely available on board for your use throughout the day. Please bring your own washable face mask and gloves with you, and additional hand sanitiser to make you feel comfortable, as these will be required to be worn in public in some countries. Should an unexpected situation arise, additional face masks, rubber gloves, antiviral sprays and wipes will be available for guest distribution on all trips.

A Full Team of Support 24/7

It’s not just your Travel Director and Driver who will be taking care of you. Behind the scenes, the operations and guest support teams are in contact with them and on call 24/7, so you can rest assured that you’re in good hands.

Physical Distancing

Adapting to the right size groups, based on government distancing requirements, you can rest assured that you will travel with the comfort of your own personal space. Have peace of mind that all of the experiences, hotels and restaurants you’ll enjoy on your trip have been vetted to ensure they adhere to physical distancing and hygiene guidelines.

Trusted Partners, Exceptional Standards

Contiki is very selective in who they work with and choose to only use hotels, restaurants, ground handlers and venues that take the well-being of the guests as seriously as Contiki does and agrees to meet expected guidelines and specifications. Contiki only works with establishments that they are confident will consistently adhere to their high standards.

Always in the Know

As part of The Travel Corporation (TTC) , Contiki is kept up to date with all government advisories and travel alerts on a daily basis and is continually in touch with all of the partners on the ground in each destination. Also, rest assured that during your trip, the teams work to ensure the supplier partners (hotels, restaurants, museums and other venues) are also applying the same standard to these new hygiene and distancing protocols, to the extent possible.

Questions & Answers

Question: How many suitcases can I take with me on my trip?

Each person is allowed one "check-in," and one "carry-on." Remember to take all valuables with you as "carry-on", because electronic equipment, cameras, laptops, jewelry, business documents and money are not covered by the airlines' liability, so always carry them aboard with you.

Question: Is Airfare Included in the Price?

Airfare from your point of origin to and from the trip is not included in the land price.

Prepare to spend more than usual on a Contiki tour.

We were lucky that the group of people with were good, but it was a large group tour and did have some of the downfalls of a trip of that nature, like frequent breaks for the bathroom, difficulty when eating out together, and getting things on and off the coach. The trip was still great and a good value for the money.

It was a good value and the experiences included were worth it. The only part that wasn't the best were the accommodations as it was hit and miss. Half of the hotels on the trip were okay, and the other half were really nice.
