Tour Itinerary

What do you get when you combine ancient glaciers, a legendary icefield, and all the wonders beneath the snow-capped Canadian peaks? One of the coolest vacations there is! This nine-day tour through the Canadian Rockies and Montana’s Glacier National Park is an adventure filled with wild history, wild scenery, wildlife, and wild rides. Aboard a famous vintage Red Jammer, a massive ice explorer, a glass-walled boat (and even a flightseeing helicopter should you choose) you’ll relish the best views of big skies, bighorn sheep, and even bigger bears. From rugged gold rush territory to the sparkling turquoise waters of Banff and Jasper National Parks, there are so many gems to sink your teeth into on this Canadian Rockies vacation. We suggest starting with a tender filet of Alberta beef and a heavenly slice of homemade huckleberry pie.

  1. Day 1
    ARRIVE IN CALGARY, ALBERTA
Welcome to Calgary! At 6 pm, meet your Tour Director and travel companions for a welcome drink.

  2. Day 2
CALGARY–HEAD-SMASHED-IN BUFFALO JUMP–WATERTON LAKES NATIONAL PARK
Native Traditions Before departing Calgary, enjoy an orientation tour of the city’s highlights. Travel south along the Macleod Trail. TOUR HIGHLIGHT
CULTURE & TRADITION Discover the longtime relationship between the First Nations culture and the vast herds of American bison that roamed the plains of southwest Alberta. See the remains of marked trails and an ancient burial mound where vast quantities of buffalo (American Bison) skeletons can still be found at Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump - evidence of a custom used by the Plains People. Using their excellent knowledge of the topography and of buffalo behavior, they skillfully chased the bison over a precipice to quickly kill their main source of sustenance, clothing, and products.

Questions & Answers
  Ask A Question

Question: How many people are in a tour group?

Small groups are approximately 20-24 people, and classic groups normally have an average of 40-46.

Question: What about gratuities? How much should we add or are they included?

We recommend factoring in 10-12 dollars per person per day to calculate the cost of gratuities. You can also prepay your gratuities at time of booking for a fixed amount. These gratuities are for the tour director and driver.

Question: How much walking is required during the various stops.

Walking tours are usually included at every new stop at a city and typically lasts for an hour. The pace is comfortable and not rushed. You can opt to wait for the group at a cafe or skip the walk and do your own thing. In some cases you’ll be able to wait for the group on the motorcoach.

Question: How many meals?

Breakfast daily and 3 three-course dinners.

Question: How many meals are included

Meals included on this tour are: Breakfast every day, 3 three-course dinners including a farewell dinner in Calgary. 11 meals total.

Question: How many suitcases can I take with me on my trip?

Each person is allowed one "check-in," and one "carry-on." Remember to take all valuables with you as "carry-on", because electronic equipment, cameras, laptops, jewelry, business documents and money are not covered by the airlines' liability, so always carry them aboard with you.

Question: Is Airfare Included in the Price?

Airfare from your point of origin to and from the trip is not included in the land price.

Globus did a fine job reworking our itinerary due to the fires in Jasper National Park. We are thoroughly pleased with the trip and were very happy that we didn’t cancel. The tour director and driver were very professional and helpful. This was our 2nd bus trip with Globus and would certainly use them again.

Loved our tour guide. He went out of his way to ensure everyone was able to do everything they wanted. He also added many personal touches that were thoughtful and added to the experience. We were disappointed Maper had the fire, but not disappointed in the trip.

We had the best guide. She went above and beyond. Part of our trip had to be canceled due to forest fires in Jasper. Our guide along with Globus was able to come up with great alternatives and accommodations at the last minute. It was unbelievable. We were fortunate to have such a wonderful guide.

Our agent did a great job getting our trip together, answering our questions, and providing us all the paperwork we needed. This was a wonderful trip -- seeing all the wildlife we had anticipated except a Black bear. We saw a Grizzly with 2 cubs, Elk galore, long horned sheep, moose, chipmunks -- wonderful times! We would do this trip again if the opportunity comes along but will definitely use affordabletours.com again.

We saw a great deal of beauty and sites. The tour guide was excellent. Did a few "additional" sites not expected. We missed Lake Louise on the first attempt...bad fog...but our tour guide got us back another day...it was beautiful this attempt. We had great accommodations. The group we traveled with were all very positive and fun too.

What the travel brochure could not describe was the fact that so many other tour buses would be making the same stops at the same time as our bus. So, a new bus, great guide and driver, but when almost 100 hungry people exit two buses at these isolated stops for lunch and washroom, it becomes less about the bus and guide and more about the chaos.

This tour exceeded my expectations, Beautiful scenery, sights, & animal sightings. The tour director was not only professional & informative but entertaining & funny as was the driver. Some of the accommodations were worn, but these were mostly in national parks & expected where there were very limited hotels, however they were always neat & clean. All meals paid for by the tour were very good. Awesome trip!

Patti and I had a great time on our trip. The optional trip in Jasper National trip was a high point. I have never seen so many waterfalls in one place. We did an extra day in Calgary at the beginning. We walked 13 miles around Calgary....what a beautiful city! Glad we did that. The first hotel in Calgary did not clean our room. We called to have it cleaned...did not happen. Patti's credit card did not initially work, so our tour director put her charge on my card....without asking me, He should not have done that and we had him take it off and try Patti's again. The tour literature said there would be WiFi on the bus. We did not. It is understandable considering where we were, but don't say there will be WiFi when there isn't.

Globus tour director was exceptional. Had to work alternative hotel and sightseeing at last minute due to forest fires in Waterton. Lovely scenery in the Canadian rockies, and hit all the highlights.

The hotels and rooms were better than I expected. All breakfasts (buffets) and 3 dinners provided were really very good. I'm not a fan of tour buses, but the bus provided was always kept clean and neat. Both the tour guide and bus driver were excellent in providing services as needed and helped when there were problems or questions.

I traveled with my two sisters and we enjoyed our trip to the Montana glacier and the Canadian Rockies. Accommodations and included meals were as expected, very good. However the tour bus was no better than a Cosmos Tour bus. I enjoyed very much the optional tours. Our driver and tour director were both excellent. Looking towards another Globus tour.

The tour guide was not competent. She was constantly stressed and displayed that to us. She did not give us information on the geography or history of places visited. On my 4 previous Globus tours, I received a great deal of information about the areas visited. This is a major reason for choosing a tour rather than going alone. At one hotel, The Jasper Park Lodge, we were placed into substandard rooms. She knew this and did nothing to assure that her passengers got the best of treatment. Her information or instructions about anything we were doing was always unclear. I doubt that I will ever choose a Globus tour again.

The Globus trip Glacier National Park& the Canadian Rockies 2015 (CS5) was a fantastic trip. This trip has beautiful scenery one day after another. We enjoyed this trip so much we may take it again in the future.

There was a fire in Glacier National Park that caused us to change a few things. We were only allowed to take half of the Red Jammer tour . That was the only disappointing part of the trip. We really enjoyed the canyon walk (optional tour). The Columbia Icefield walk was the highlight of the trip.

Globus is reducing normal tour items included, such as dinners. Seems like less sightseeing is included, and more optional and expensive trips are added. The cutting of corners is not appreciated.

My thoughts are for Globus to advertise this as a 7 or 71/2 day tour and not a 9 day as it is truly being misrepresented as 9 days. Also the tour director I had left much to be desired. Barely adequate, nothing ever said about tip or no tip to people that did side trips or scheduled on tour trips or suggested amounts or even if the tour company had the tips covered or not on the scheduled trips. To overlook this, the trip was great.

The tour was horribly overpriced for the value delivered. The published itinerary for lodging was at best, deceptive advertising and at worst, bait-and-switch. I asked each hotel the room rate for the night I stayed, and the total came to $1425. I happened to see the actual price paid by Monogram and saw it was 80% of the retail rate. 80% of $1425 is $1140. Thus I was charged $1944 for accomodations worth $1425, for which Monogram paid $1140. I was baited with the Fairmont 5-star hotels in most places, and actually lodged in 3-star hotels, usually in a back corner of the property overlooking the parking lot. On 6/19/2013 I inquired whether I would be lodged at the Fairmont hotels and received the following comment: If you pull up the itinerary and look under accommodations it has a list of the hotels they use, however they do not confirm hotels until 30 prier to the actual tour date. Fairmont Chateau Louise is listed as one of them but of course is not a guaranteed accommodations. This statement was never true. There was never any intent to provide lodging in a 5-star hotel.
