One of Tokyo's most colorful and popular temples, Sensoji has been rebuilt countless times since it was founded in 628, making it Tokyo's oldest temple site. Strolling down Nakamise next, immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of shitamachi (downtown Tokyo), admiring the wooden dolls, colorful chiyogami (origami paper) and traditional Japanese sweets. Day 3
Off to the Five Lakes DistrictOur first stop today is the Imperial Palace Plaza from where the two bridges that form the entrance to the inner grounds of the Imperial Palace can be viewed. We'll have the opportunity to explore the leafy Imperial Palace East Gardens before continuing our city tour. At the Tokyo National Museum browse collections of Japanese art, then continue to the Ginza district where you’ll learn how to make sushi with a professional sushi chef. Majestic Mt. Fuji and Timeless TakayamaVisit Oshino Hakkai, a small rural village in the Fuji Five Lakes district, renowned for eight natural spring water ponds that are fed by melted snow from Mt. Fuji. Admire the reflections of the sky and landscapes in its clear waters, then ascend Mt. Fuji by road to 2,300 meters at the 5th station. Ride up Mt. Cross the Seto Inland Sea to Awaji Island Stays With StoriesThis morning we leave Japan’s main island Honshu behind, crossing the world’s largest suspension bridge over the Seto Inland Sea to Awaji Island. Enjoy free time for lunch, then take a walk around Yumebutai, a complex of buildings built on the side of the mountain. One of the most striking features is the ‘100 Stepped Garden’ — a group of 100 flowerbeds in small square gardens on an incline and arranged in grids spread over several levels. Visit the Water Temple and admire the reflection of the surrounding mountains, rice paddies and bamboo groves as you descend the steps to the Buddhist temple beneath its still waters. Journey to the small mountain hot springs village of Kotohira where our accommodation tonight is one of Trafalgar's Stays With Stories - a traditional Japanese ryokan. We’ll have some time this evening to climb the steps adjacent to the hotel to visit Kotohira-gu Shrine and be rewarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. Spiritual Kotohira and Onwards to HiroshimaThis morning visit the Zentsuji Temple, birthplace of one of the most revered figures of Japanese Buddhism, the high priest Kobo Daishi. It is the 75th temple on the 88 temple Shikoku Pilgrimage, which covers approximately 1,200 kilometers and was traditionally done on foot taking up to 60 days to complete. It is still done by many people today although modern pilgrims use cars, taxis, buses, bicycles or motorcycles. Continue to Omishima Island and make a stop at a local restaurant for lunch. Drive to Hiroshima via the Setouchi Shimanami Kaido Expressway, a 60-kilometer highway that links the islands of the Seto Inland Sea with nine individual bridges. Set Sail for Miyajima Island Dive Into CultureWe travel by ferry to the sacred Miyajima Island, where we’ll see the famous UNESCO-listed Itsukushima Shrine and elaborate torii gate that stands majestically in the sea. After some free time for lunch and to explore the island’s spiritual sanctuaries, we return to Hiroshima for a visit to the Peace Memorial Park and Museum. Imagine the devastation and horror that followed the world’s first atomic explosion in 1945 as you see the UNESCO-listed Peace Memorial, the only structure left standing in the area and an expression of hope for world peace. We had a great time with Trafalgar's Best of Greece trip. Would definitely recommend it!
This was really a good tour. Mount Pilatus was amazing. Venice was the highlight of the trip. Words cannot describe Venice
The tour director was great, with such a big group of 52 persons; She did wonderful job!!! The driver was also very professional. Total experience was very good.
2 of our accommodations were not twin beds as requested. We would definitely book again another tour if Palbo was the guide He was fantastic and really tried to accommodate us to the fullest.
Generally fast paced. Optional tours were worth signing up for. I saw a lot of Italy and had a lovely time especially in the medieval towns. Excellent tour director and coach driver who were passionate, cared deeply and made the journey a very safe and pleasant experience for the guests. Specialist tour guides were good and travelling companions were wonderful. I had a great time on this tour and could not have asked for more.
We have been on 7 Trafalgar tours and this one ranks right at the top. By far the longest and most adventurous. Nellie Sullivan was one of the best tour directors we’ve ever had. She went beyond what most TDs have done. Our optional excursions in Australia and New Zealand were phenomenal. Definitely a trip to remember.
4th Trafalgar Tour was the best yet. Our tour director Pedro Pinto was excellent. We saw both must see and seldom seen places. Truly best of Portugal. As a treat, our director got us representative sweets from each region as well as picking restaurants featuring local specialties.
This was our sixth trip with Trafalgar and we have never been dissapointed. We will continue to travel with them on future trips.
The tour was very rushed with skipping many parts of a tour and too many people squeezed in the bus. The tour operater commented daily on tipping the bus operator, our tour guide and other tour guides. Most meals included were low budget meals and the meals that we paid for were high quality meals . Some of the hotels were terrible and some were four stars . Sometimes we felt that we were treated as kids on a school bus trip and were scolded if we were a couple of minutes late, It was not a laid back experience. There were many extras for dinners and tours that we paid for. In my opinion for a tour of Italy I would rather have an Italian Tour Manager for the experience of Italy with an Italian accent , although our tour Manager spoke Italian really well, very experienced on Italy and the culture but a better experience. We were recommended in Venice while on a tour of a Merano glass Manufacture to purchase high quality products with life time guarantee . We bought a ring and several days later it became defective in loosing small pieces of it . We told the tour manager and she tried for several weeks thru email to correct the situation, but they would not replace the same ring, only give us a different one. After the tour we went on a tour to Sicily with gate one travel that we traveled before with that was 100 times better! I will not book we Trafalgar again or recommend them ! In fact I booked a tour of Japan in 2025 with Gate one discovery travel.
My 5th trip with Trafalgar. I would like to look into Insight in the future also.

Our vacation trip to Egypt was very enjoyable. Learned about the history, culture and visited museums, ancient mosques, temples. The 7 day cruise was excellent; staff was great and friendly, food is good, and our travel tour guide Mohammed TAHA was very good, friendly, knowledgeable.
