wifi on bus was unuseable. some hotels the breakfast was not even hot and the orange juice was watered down on a couple of the hotels as well. but overall was satisfied with the price to value ratio for the trip. So I will be using affordabletours.com in the future.
It's a great overview of Britain.
Everything was up to expectations our tour director was outstanding.
The trip was wonderful, as have been all the other Cosmos or Globus trips I have taken. This was my 7th between them. All went as planned and the sights and stops were wonderful, though some of the stops could have used a little more time. I also think it would be helpful if they would spell out more clearly that we have to pay our own entrance costs at many of the sights if we wanted to go inside, and give some idea of the cost of the primary ones. I also feel that the extra excursions are very expensive, though most were interesting. We even had to pay for a city tour of London, even though this was an England, Scotland, Wales trip starting and ending in London. Other than that, I loved the trip and the tour director was very good, as they all have been on these trips.
Really rushed on the itinerary, didn't have enough time to see sites. Some of the hotels were really far out so couldn't spend the few hours we had in the evening taking in towns so didnt get to do more than a drive by on some of the towns listed. A few of the hotels were quite rough/uncomfortable.
Cosmos was good. I've just had better experiences with Trafalgar's itinerary and tour guides so would book with Trafalgar over Cosmos. Cosmos #9000 England, Scotland, and Wales tour stated (on their website) we would be driving along Loch Ness and we also called Cosmos directly and they confirmed this. On our tour this did not happen so we had to pay extra money to get our own taxi to go to Loch Ness. We could of picked other tours if we had the correct information that this tour does not drive by Loch Ness.
I would recommend Affordable Tours for anyone who is looking for value and variety. This is the 4th trip I have taken with CIE, Cosmos and i have enjoyed each.
1) No water provided on the bus. 2) Not allowed to use the bus bathroom. 3) Not allowed to use side door, took 15 min each stop to disembark. 4) Not allowed to eat on the bus 5) Rooms were moldy, dirty, disgusting in several places. 6) Doors would not lock in 2 places 7) Tour guide greeted me with, "do not bring your carry on bag. If there is room, we will put it onboard. This is after our luggage was lost! Great start! 8) All dinners were not provided 9) Hate & loathe Novtel - expensive, poor service, lost our luggage, rude. 10) Can you get any further away from town? Horrible lodgings!
The tour was my second with Cosmos, and had it been my first, I would not have booked another with this tour group. First, we are supposed to receive travel docs, including a booklet with important information and a luggage tag. I never received these travel docs, and the booklet entitled us to certain discounts, plus it advised us as to a reasonable amount for gratuities, among other practicalities. If Cosmos was responsible for sending this material, it simply failed to do so. Second, the tour was way too rushed and does not include reasonable stops in many towns, including Glasgow and Cardiff, among others. Third, unlike recent tours I took in Italy and Morocco, we were chained to this bus, made only 3 photo stops in ten days because the bus driver barreled through Great Britain, and the tour director did not advise him to stop for us when asked. Yet, we had to stop for the bus driver's smoke breaks. Additionally, we stayed at remote locations because of the bus, whereas in other tours I have taken, the bus driver dropped us off and appropriately disappeared. Even more disheartening was the fact that there were food trays and a bathroom on this bus, and we were advised we could not use them. Are you kidding me? We existed at the mercy of the bus driver??? And the tour guide??? Fourth, the bus was unsafe, the bus driver and the tour guide inattentive, and a woman fell and broke her ankle leaving the bus after the tour guide announce that we were really stressed for time during this stop. I believe this excessive focus on time limitations contributed to that horrible accident when this woman was unable to leave this poor designed rear exit safely. Fifth, when there are such time limitations, the hotels must be centrally located so that tourists can go out on their own on what free time there is, and there was not much. The hotel in Cardiff, a city known for vibrant night life. was out in the boonies, was miserably uncomfortable and situated in absolute darkness making the choice to walk 10 minutes to the local pub even untenable. We were really stuck at a very bad hotel when we should have been located in the city, and the bus driver with bus (again) located elsewhere and available to pick us up in the morning. There is lots of competition out there, and I am wary of traveling with Cosmos again because on this particular trip the tour guide and the bus driver seemed to think we were there at their mercy when we were the paying customers. Finally, I took the option of foregoing the single supplement. There were 3 women on the tour who did this, but the tour guide did not set up a rotation schedule to make this fair, and she complained to me when I questioned the unfair set up. Her behavior towards me and the set up were both inappropriate.
A wonderful tour at a budget price!
Everything was up to standards. Trip was very well organized. Fun was had by all.
Everything was well organized. The trip was a lot of fun!
I think the best way to describe the trip was that we saw a lot of Great Britain from the coach. When I initially looked at the itinerary and the miles travelled per day, I related the distance to American interstate highways. While they have many similar highways in Great Britain, we were not on them much of the time. Therefore when we reached a location, we were given between one to two hours to see have lunch, see the notable sites and be back on the bus to get to the next location. This was my ninth similar coach tour, two with Globus, six with Gate1, and was the most ambitious in mileage covered by coach only. In my view the leg to Strathpeffer, Scotland could have been deleted 468 miles for a direct 90 mile trip to Glasgow would have been much more interesting. While we stayed in Glasgow overnight, we only saw it from the coach as we left. The largest city in Scotland and we did not ever see anything but the hotel we stayed in overnight. What we saw of the Scottish highlands, we saw again in the mountains between England and Whales. Secondly, the all the hotels we stayed in except Edinburgh, Liverpool and Plymouth had either just one or one working elevator. Getting 48 people up to their rooms in such a fashion (five people per trip) should be greatly improved. Even the Holiday Inn in London only had one elevator working in the lobby for the first two days we were there. It was by far the smallest hotel room I have ever stayed in! The location was great but the size of the room was so tiny. With two people with luggage for a 11 days stay, I had to step over my bag to get into and out of bed. There was no other possible other place to put it in the room! We chose all but one of the optional excursions (not the boat tour in Plymouth). In the past with Globus every thing were included. If you add those the base price of Cosmos' tours, I don't see a big saving for Cosmos and staying in less attractive hotel with fewer amenities. I chose Cosmos this time instead of Globus because Globus did not have the similar tour at the same time period. Due to work, this is the only time we could go and I wanted to see the Edinburgh Military Tattoo which I had read so much about. So, in the future I probably not be using Cosmos even though they had a great Tour Director on this tour. My recommendations to Cosmos would be fewer miles and more time at location sites. An hour 30 or 45 minutes is not enough to eat and see the sites.
The tour plan and the staff were excellent but...packing 48 persons into a 51 seater bus is a scandal!
Everything was perfect
I really enjoyed the trip
Was my first time and I thought it was great. Our tour director was awesome!!!
We thoroughly enjoyed our Globus tour to England, Scotland and Wales. The bus driver and tour guide were awesome. Again, thanks a lot!
disappointed - coach was extremely cramped. no audio headsets. One hotel was terrible. Guide was excellent.
This trip was even better than I had expected. Everything was exactly as described. Couldn't have been smoother. Tour guide and bus driver were fantastic.
I don't know of any other tour operator that gives more value for money spent than Cosmos, and I told that to many people I've talked with.
Most of each day was spent in the bus with very little time (an hour or less) at the destinations. This tour of England, Scotland and Wales covers too much distance and insufficient content. There was only one local tour guide provided as part of the tour (in Edinbrugh), and unfortunately the on-bus tour director was not very knowledgeable about many of the destinations, based on this experience, I definitely will not travel again with Cosmos (although the tour I took with them in Spain this June was very good).
Great guided trip through the UK. Guide was superb, and his knowledge of history was a continuous lesson. Everything was presented in such a way that we came to see part of his pride in his country.
For Cosmos: only the tour guide and the driver were good (as well as the optional excursion guides). The accommodations were horrendous, including the ones in Scotland (highlands & glasgow.) The rooms were smelly and no other accommodations were offered. The London representative was difficult to understand. Very disappointed that the Buckingham Palace tour was unavailable. Cosmos should have pre-booked the tickets or not even put it in the "optional" excusions booklet as "available"
Some locations where the hotels was situated offered little to do in the evening. One such location, if you did not select the optional sheep dogs/shearing for people staying behind found little to do. The Liverpool hotel location was the best, people could walk around and see a lot there. Top awards go to Steven Warren for being very detailed, professional and courteous in my talks and e-mails with him. Thanks for the great assistance!!
The only reason I wouldn't consider a Cosmos tour in the future is the great deal of discomfort I had on the smaller, more cramped coach. Being a disabled veteran, the very narrow seats (more narrow than my shoulder width), along with limited leg room made any trips more than a hour very uncomfortable. It is my understanding that the Globus tours (next step up) have much more comfortable and roomy coaches. This comes from our fellow tour group members who have done multiples of these. Therefore, I guess I'd at a minimum go with Globus in the future. Otherwise, it was a wonderful way to spend our 25th anniversary. Thanks much.
The actual tour guide and bus driver were very good. However, the reps from Globus at the arrival and departing hotels left something to be desired. They spoke too quickly so we were not sure always what they were saying. Plus we had an issue with our departing rep and were treated rather briskly. We were not satisfied and she claimed were were the only ones not happy. When we finally got on the departing bus we learned that several of the other passengers felt as we did - not satisfied.
I was VERY impressed with the entire experience. Our agent was easy to talk to and very helpful, the staff person was there waiting at Heathrow just as promised, we got to the airport for our return flight in plenty of time. Cosmos was great!!! The hotels were nice and the food was good. The optional excursions we did were wonderful! Our guide was a walking encyclopedia and we learned so much from him and our bus driver was amazing. Thank you so much-- we would definitely book a trip with you again.
Accomodations in Plymouth were far below what I expected. The hotel was a bit of a dump, my room had stained and dirty carpet, the carpet was wet near the window (window closed), and there was a lot of mold in the shower. Food was ok, but not as good as at other hotels. The staff, however, were courteous and the waiter we had was outstanding. Nonetheless, I would not willingly return to the Legacy Hotel in Plymouth. Our tour leader and the driver were outstanding. The guide is so full of interesting tidbits about the tour route that it made it all the more interesting. Two staff members at the Kensington Close were wonderful - ansering endless questions and keeping their cool despite temper tantrums from some tour members(not our tour, but another one). Hotel in Liverpool was great - we had a sitting room and bedroom suite. Was very comfortable and peaceful. Would be nice to make note of internet availability in the tour synopsis. We did not always know where there was internet and if it cost extra or not. Having that would be nice.
First, both our driver and our tour guide were superb. And second, all but one hotel were comfortable, well appointed, and as expected. Unfortunately the hotel in Plymouth was dirty (mold in bath, stained carpet) and their fee for internet access was outrageously high.

1. My agent Vivian Vo provided exceptional customer service. 2. The tour guide Stuart explained in detail about your places as well as about general aspects of UK. He was cheerful, friendly, courteous and highly knowledgeable about UK. 3. The bus driver Steve was excellent. It was amazing how he maneuvered the long bus in narrow streets. He was exceptionally safe.
