The over-the-top homes. The complicated relationships. The relentless quest for power. Ruling Austria—and later the Austro-Hungarian Empire—for nearly 650 years, the Habsburgs formed one of history’s greatest, yet often overlooked, European dynasties. This fascinating tour of Central Europe traces the family’s steps—and missteps—as you enjoy the imperial sights of Prague, Budapest, and Vienna with additional overnights in melodious Salzburg and lively Munich. Ornate castles and cathedrals, stunning palaces and parks, and gorgeous gardens and grounds provide glimpse into the intriguing lives and lavish lifestyles of one of history’s most powerful and controversial families. In-depth sightseeing and a cruise along the legendary Danube offer varied vantage points to witness the magnificent marks this royal family left on Central Europe.

Globus always provides very high quality. We were completely satisfied with our experience.
It was a great trip. The cities visited were beautiful and interesting and the tour director and local guides made each city come alive. The tour director was extremely well organized and the driver was very skilled and professional. We had no issues with airport transfers or the transportation and porterage during the tour. The hotels were very nice and we took, and enjoyed, every excursion.
It was a great trip to experience both river views (ans there were three short cruises for scenery) and land tours. It was the only trip I found that included Budapest, Prague and Salzburg all in one trip. The tour director and driver were both wonderful.
Globus was top notch. Our tour guide was exceptional. Everything was on time and we were able to get to many attractions early before the crowds.
Globus included a great balance of escorted tour options and free time to explore. Our tour guide, Misko, driver Aldi and all of the local guides were amazing and provided such great insight to the beautiful cities and surprise stops on our trip. We really liked the pace- we were able to spend at least two nights in each city, except Salzburg- which we have loved an extra day there, but we made the most of our time, thanks to our expert guides. We cannot wait to explore again!
This was the first tour, our operator Wouter has done since precovid. He's knowledgeable l polite and interesting.
We often had dinner in our hotel restaurant. . Although that was convenient we would have been preferred to dine at local restaurants to more experience the local culture.
This tour was exactly like it says on the tin. You hit the highlights in a few different countries but there's definitely no time to get in depth so if you expect that you'll be disappointed. I look at it like an opportunity to see which countries I'd like to come back to some day. The tour director and the bus driver were awesome.
I have taken a globus tour to Italy over 10 years ago and had a wonderful experience. This tour itinerary was as advertised. Many beautiful sites, the excursions added up but were worth every dollar. I cannot say enough about the wonderful local guides in each of the cities. They each brought so much historical knowledge and personal stories of life in their cities. They truly enriched the experience. The hotels were mostly clean and comfortable. The one in Prague was in an excellent location but poor quality. It was unusually hot AC poor. My only issue was with the included dinners, all awful. Because of the distances between cities we arrived late at some hotels and dinner included at hotel. The food was inedible especially in Budapest. And a 1 glass beer or wine limit. This is not what I want in a vacation dinner especially after driving all day and a truck stop lunch.
We had a wonderful trip! Everything was so organized and planned. Will definitely book with Affordable Tours again!
The Eastern European trip was incredible!
Werner, our tour director, did a fantastic job of keeping 42 people well informed, on time, and happy! He does a great job in looking after his clients and making sure things go smoothly. Our driver, Steven, is an expert driver, and needs to be highly commended for his performance. Well done, guys.
It would be better for me if the itinerary allowed me to spend more time in Munich prior to the departure to Prague. The hotel was good and it was a disappointment that the stay was brief.
some of the hotels were not very comfortable, the carpet was dirty and the rooms were hot, because the AC was not working well. The historic restaurant was hot, because we were seated in the basement without any AC and not upstairs This was an unusual hot weather in Central Europe at this time and this was part of the unhealthy environment problem Nevertheless the tour director and bus driver were both excellent
Our Imperial Splendors tour with Globus was amazing and went beyond our expectations. The hotels, breakfasts, dinners, and guided tours were incredible! Our tour guide, Sheryl, was fantastic!! She had a great personality, knew everything there was to know and more about each city we visited, and made the tour a lot of fun!
This was my our 4th Globus tour and it met all our expectations. We signed up for most of the additional trips to be able to see as much as we could during our visit to the five countries. The tour director made it even more special. We felt very safe in Europe and look forward to returning to Europe in the near future.
I really enjoyed this trip! Our tour director was wonderful. I would highly recommend this tour.
While on this trip my husband was stung by a bee and had to get medical attention. Our tour operator called the hotel ahead and arranged for a doctor to come to the hotel. He also followed up to make sure my husband was okay. He also gave us the 259.00 euros in case they did not accept our charge card. The doctor was very professional and gave my husband an antibiotic for the infections. We were fortunate to get such a quick response since the infection was spreading into his legs. We were able to continue with the tour and our tour director continued to check on my husband. He was also very informative, friendly and made sure we all had a good time.
I felt the guide was exceptional as well as the selection of places to visit. This is our 4th tour with Globus.
This was our 4th Globus tour and it was very nice. The right amount of time was spent in each city and the tour covered the highlights of each place. The optional tours wer worth the money.
This trip was excellent!
The itinerary/Package did match the description from Globus. The guide, however, did not correctly treat the issue of my missing wallet. I realized that my wallet was missing almost immediately on the first day of the tour while we were still in Munich. I told the guide, but she did not call the hotel until we were done with the Munich sightseeing and had traveled over an hour on our way to Prague. I was told that the wallet had been found in my hotel room, and I would not get it until we returned to Munich at the end of our vacation. This meant I had no credit cards, Euros, cash, or driver's license. On our last night of the trip, my wallet was delivered to our hotel by cab minus 200 Euros. Another traveler left her purse in her hotel room in Budapest and received the same indifferent treatment. At the end of the trip, she still did not have her purse containing her cell phone, etc. I would be reluctant to travel with Globus again even though I did have many wonderful experiences and saw amazing sights. Also, we took all the optional tours which greatly enhanced the trip.
Tour guide was excellent in all respects but should have emphasized the hotel in Munich, Germany charges for WiFi service in the hotel room but not in the lobby. I received a nasty notification from my bank that Le Meridien Muenchen had charged my credit card $58.33. I did not receive a statement when I left as the tour guide took my room cards and handed them in. Since I did not either eat or drink anything from my room I can only assume the charge was WiFi I attempted to use (checking my email) and the WiFi failed to connect from my room so I must have been charged for ATTEMPTS! I was unable to access my email accounts from the lobby either.
Some of optional tours for dinners were just ok. But some very good. Enjoyed our trip and saw so much
Globus tour director was knowledgable and entertaining. He have a great sense of humor. The bus driver was really an excellent driver and patient for everyone in our tour group. He knew the area and places to park to accommoder older members in our tour group.
The extra side trips were overpriced and generally not worth. Went on a concert trip that was supposed to be in historic concert but was just a large room.
Great trip! No problems with arrangements made with Globus or Affordable Tours. Everything went as scheduled.
Globus should add to this tour description that long walks and many stairs are encountered to see the sights as Europe does not do accessibility accommodation as found in the states. Some members of the tour were not physically capable and should have booked a less vigorous tour. For those who saw all the sights, all sights were marvelous, historic and beautiful. Each city was enjoyable and the included river cruise spectacular. Oktoberfest was on in Munich which was an additional treat.
The Globus tour itself was wonderful all around - great tour director, itinerary and accommodations. Would definitely recommend all optional excursions, too...well worth the price.
The tour, itself, was well organized, but my only disappointment was that the Schoenbrunn Palace did not allow us to take photographs of the interior. Not certain that the Neuschwanstein Castle could be a substitute for the Schonbrunn Palace and if they would allow one to take photos. If so, it would seem to be a better attraction overall.
I HAVE TAKEN MANY GROUP TOURS. I HAVE ENJOYED THIS ONE VERY MUCH. MY TOUR DIRECTOR WAS THE BEST OF ALL THE TOURS I HAVE TAKEN. HE TOLD US THE HISTORY AND STORIES OF THE PEOPLES OF THE REGION IN A VERY ENTERTAINING WAY. HE WAS VERY EXPERIENCED AND WAS ABLE TO SUGGEST MANY THINGS WE MIGHT WANT TO SEE ON OUR OWN. OUR DRIVER WAS PROMPT TO DROP US OFF AND PICK US UP ON OUR MANY EXCURSIONS AND DROVE SAFELY AT ALL TIMES. THE GROUP OF PEOPLE ON THIS TOUR WERE A FRIENDLY AND FUN GROUP. ON THIS ITINERARY PRAGUE AND SALZBERG WERE MY FAVORITE CITIES- MUNICH WAS MY LEAST FAVORITE.
The tour was excellent, only would like to have had an extra day in PRAGUE, VIENNA & SALZBURG. The accomodations were good in all locations. All in all the tour was very good so much so that we are considering putting a group together and having them customize a tour to our liking.
the bus driver and the tour guide were exceptional
Tell clients Europe is expensive, especially for dining. Plan on spending double to triple of what one might budget for this trip. All in all, it was a wonderful tour, although some sites/activites were closed to us because of winter conditions. We would have loved to have seen Eagle's Nest, for example. On the positive side, there were less crowds. Although some sites were crowded enough, we visited places early in the day, due to the foresight and planning of the very capable tour director.
i had a great time on this tour. met alot of great people as well. Europe in the fall is so beautiful the weather was perfect.
Tour Director and Driver were excellent. All local guides were knowledgeable. Tour was a good value for the money. The hotels were in the city center which made it easy to see the sites and to walk around on our own. Will reccommend to others!
Really enjoyed the trip and hope to book another trip with Affordable Tours. Thank you.

Globus provided a diverse itinerary. Tour director was personable, caring and extremely knowledgeable. Breakfasts were excellent. However, most dinners included in the package were disappointing- either insufficient quantity or quality with limited choices. Wine pours were below standard amount.
