Itinerary

Tour Itinerary

The hills are alive with the sound of music, the aroma of strudel, and the taste of schnitzel. In addition to the fables, falsettos, and tastes of two of Europe’s most scenic countries, a symphony of sights awaits your arrival on this scenic tour of Austria and Switzerland. Palaces and castles, peaks, and glaciers, moving scenery, and famous movie scenes are all on the itinerary. As you make the stunning journey from melodious Vienna to metropolitan Zurich, you’ll experience the breathtaking scenery in a variety of ways. Cruise down the dreamy Danube, board the Glacier Express train for the car-free mountain resort of Zermatt, and frolic in the same Austrian locations as Julie Andrews did in the hit movie The Sound of Music. At the end of your eye-opening and ear-pleasing vacation, “So long, farewell” will be the hardest words to utter.

Small group concept is a wonderful idea. We had very accommodating tour director and very experienced and safe driver. Most important the group of people we traveled with were very friendly supportive and fun loving. That makes the experience of this trip memorable.

Trip totally met my expectations and went very smoothly.

This was a trip of a lifetime for me! The Tour Guide was outstanding and the Coach Driver was a great driver too! Thank you for a great trip that I will never forget!

Hue was wonderful! She replied to me instantly every time I emailed her. Very helpful.

The director and bus driver were great! I'd go on a trip with them in a heartbeat.

Dana Woods was great and very informative about these trips . I will definitely use her again in future bookings. I have informed several friends to use Dana as she provides accurate and timely information. Thank you Dana !

This is the best vacation I have ever taken.

The trip was amazing with the exception of the pace at times. There were several travelers that had problems keeping up with the guide while walking. She walked very fast and didn't seem to wait for the stragglers that were having problems keeping up. She keep telling us there was a time schedule and if she didn't keep it she would be in trouble. Normally I don't have issues keeping up, but I did this time and was in pain as was my sister. Globus should tell people that at times this tours has lots of walking and at a fast pace. I did not have an issue, but I did hear others complain about a couple of the hotels having small rooms and no AC. I thought they were very quaint and you only had to open a window. I felt totally safe doing this. I wouldn't change the experience of these small family run hotels.

Great trip! Well organized. Everything went without a hitch! Loved it!

Excellent trip. Well planned and executed. Terrific tour director and driver. Area of improvement: food choices for non meat eaters.

Cindy, Besides the plane issue the Trip was fantastic. We were busy the entire time with ample breaks to enjoy the surroundings. Austria and Switzerland were outstanding!

The tour was amazing from the beauty and interest that each location destination provided. Every stop was a point of interest that exceeded our expectations.

We did not receive the booklet containing itinerary etc. and the envelopes for tips for tour guide and driver. I was able to print the itinerary but the booklet would have been a lot more convenient. I have since heard of others who experienced the same thing: Canadians who didn't receive their packets in the mail before the trip. Perhaps someone could explain why this happened and assure it doesn't happen to others. Other than that, a couple of the excursions were not quite worth the money but most were very worthwhile. Great tour guide and driver! Wonderful first time experience.

Awesome vacation trip. Affordable Tours' Darlena was excellent. Trip locations were beautiful, hotels were excellent, food and entertainment great, and optional excursions were amazing. One of the best vacations we've ever had. Thanks to all including the Globus Tour Director and coach driver who were very accommodating, knowledgeable, and professional.

4th trip booked through AT, highly recommend to anyone looking to book a trip with them.

The tour was wonderful. The tour guide and bus driver were so accomodating and paid attention to all our needs. The only complaint we would have would be the 1 hotel on the tour. While all the other ones were perfect, the Holiday Inn, Westside in Bern was too far from the center of town. Plus the beds were very uncomfortable as well. The entire time we were there, we felt "trapped" in our location. Another suggestion would be to spend more time in Innsbruck---we were only given 1 hour in which to have lunch and shop a little--far too brief! The Sheraton in Salzburg was outstanding---perfect location and wonderful staff. Also. we loved the Pollux in Zermatt. It was right in the center of old town and charming.

We enjoyed our Austria & Switzerland vacation with Globus. Service level was very good. Yes we will definitely consider taking another vacation with Globus.

This trip was amazing! Our guide was knowledgeable and very patient with the entire group and last minute changes! The cities and sites were spectacular, hotels and meals were excellent. Highly recommend this tour!

Switzerland and Austria are beautiful countries with a lot of history! Tour director knew and educated us about all of it!

We just returned from our Globus tour to Austria and Switzerland. What a great tour. Would recommend this trip. Thank you

We had a memorable trip and the weather was good except for one day that it rained. The whole tour had a well-balanced itinerary with time to rest in between, and the optional tours selection was great. Our tour director was amazing, very knowledgeable, fun, caring and attentive to all the needs of the group. Our driver was excellent and kept us safe and on time. The group blended well and made new friends.

Our travel consultant at Affordable Tours was great. Globus was not the greatest tour in my seven years travelling to Europe. The tour guide was excellent as well the driver. The sights and options were great. However, the food was just fair. There were no choices in meal choices unlike others on some of the other tours by other companies. Many of my co-travelers were not pleased with the food. In addition, of the six hotels stayed at, three had problems. One room was so small I kept hitting my feet against the bed plus I couldn't even turn around in the shower. At Zermatt, my room was in the basement with the bathroom down thirteen steps. Furthermore, they didn't turn on the heat so I had to ask for a space heater. At the Grand Hotel Europe when I arrived there was no soap so I had to go to the front desk to ask for soap. The next day I came back to the room at 3 pm to find the room not made up. I again had to go to the front desk to ask that the room be made up. Why did I receive such poor rooms when I paid a single supplement. I never had problems with Trafulgar, Collette, CIE Tours, or Insight.

One of the best tours we've taken to date! Globus never disappoints. Please reward your long-time loyal customers with a greater discount. We've taken 8 tours now and get the same discount as anyone who just now signs up for Journeys or takes just one tour.

My wife and I really enjoyed the Best of Austria and Switzerland Tour and the itinerary was what we wanted and has met our expectations. Though the tour was hectic, which we expected at the start, we really like (and it was convenient) staying for two nights in a city (like in Vienna, Salzburg, Zermatt and Lucerne) in which the itinerary in this tour had nicely scheduled. We had a well-experienced and caring tour guide. Overall, it was an enjoyable tour!

The tour was fantastic. I don't know how you could have packed much more into this trip. Food was excellent, bus was comfortable. Liked the varied means of transportation...bus, train, ferry, cable car and gondola. Only thing I had trouble with is that the hotels in Vienna and Lucerne were not air conditioned. I know that it is difficult to find one that is located where you want to be and has air, but just be aware and plan accordingly. I found it difficult to sleep, but then I tend to be warm when others are OK. All in all, the trip was terrific and one to be remembered.

Great trip! Our Guide was very helpful and fun! Really liked the special treatment we felt having our bags taken to our rooms and picked up from our rooms at all hotels. We liked having meals included because the cost of food in Europe is high. The extra excursions were great. We enjoyed all the people and not having to plan everything ourselves. The bus was almost new and made the ride comfortable. I would use Globus again :)

The tour director was very knowledgeable, friendly, and paid attention to details.

Tour GUIDE was wonderful, and very knowledgeable! Bus DRIVER was great and worked very hard to accommodate all passengers with their luggage loading and unloading! Meals INCLUDED on tour were outstanding~ BREAKFASTS were fantastic and FIRST CLASS***** 5 star other TOUR GUIDES in cities were so well informed about the city histories!

The Tour Director was experienced and very helpful, but some of the hotels were not air conditioned at a time when the weather was very hot. Nonetheless, the trip was excellent.

Great trip over-all, we just got a tour-guide that did not want to answer questions, and treated us like kindergardners. If you asked her a question about an activity for the next day, she would say, "I'll tell you tomorrow, when we get there" and she would forget. You would get scolded if you asked a question and she felt it was on "her time" as in dinner, or in between activities. It got to the point, NO ONE asked her anything anymore, because they were tired of getting reemed out or scolded. I'm sorry, but that is her job, that's what she is getting paid to do. The other disappointment, we were originally to go to Grand hotel Lucerne last couple of nights. We were soo excited about a view, etc, they changed it to a cheaper hotel Royal, and did not put everybody with a view like they promised, we felt ripped off. Other than those 2 minor things, It was an amazing trip with amazing views and excellent choice of towns and we took all optional excursions. Would probably go Globus again, since it is not their fault the guide was not so helpful. Looking to do Ireland, Scotland and Wales next year, will have to see what different tour companies are offering. Our agent was great, I'll personally request her next year if we go thru afffordable tours. Thank you for all you've done!

Our tour director was the most kind, patient, intelligent and knowledgeable individual we have ever had on the various tours/trips we have taken. She is most definitely a MAJOR ASSET to your company. We would also like to acknowledge, the agent as she was most helpful in planning our tour/excursions. Always answering our questions, returning our phone calls promptly. Excellent!

The only negative comment I have was the size of the tour. I was expecting somewhere between 30-35 people (and actually hoping for closer to 30!), and there were 41.

The Tour Director was terrific. He was knowledgeable, interesting, and made the trip. The hotel accomodations were very nice. Every hotel we stayed was clean and comfortable. I would recommend the tour "Best of Austria and Switzerland."
