Not luxury but comfortable, comprehensive and fun
We loved the trip to Ireland and Scotland! Donna, who booked our trip did a great job. Jordana, our tour director was outstanding and wonderful, and Darius, our driver was the best. It was truly and awesome trip! Thank you all!
We were quite disappointed with Trafalgar. Several of our hotels were changed. Our tour director didn't seem to care about us at all (ie: 2 of the other travelers had their luggage lost, 1 for 4 days, the other for the whole 2 weeks and our director just kind of said, "What a shame" and did nothing. Maybe we are spoiled by Globus, but neither the hotels (except the last one), nor the included meals were up to standard. We would be better off finding our own meals. We were looking forward to seeing the "Ring of Kerry" touted as, ".....a breathtaking coastal drive....See....the fishing village of Waterville....and Moll's Gap...". We drove along the coast for less than a mile, never went to Waterville and drove past Moll's Gap at about 40 mph!
Very mixed...some accomodations great, 2 really bad ( mold in bathroom...pictures taken by me,... dirty rooms, small rooms, rooms smaller than my master bathroom at home, stained carpets, musty smells, no heat, noise all night, breakfast buffets poor, service poor, one hotel room in a basement and very claustrophobic...... like staying in a dungeon, hotel staff indiffrent). Tour guide very scripted and dismissive, sacastic, not helpful. Some points in tour description were covered by wizzing by the site, and if you were on the correct side of the bus you might focus in on taking a photo. Seat rotation on bus not equitable, as some people had front row seats a couple of times, some people never had front seats. Tour guide was a smoker and reeked of smoke. We had numerous short "bathroom breaks" which were really more like stops so the tour guide could smoke. Tour guide (an Irishman) had lots of ad lib info and promotions about Ireland and minimal info about Scotland and almost distain for the Scotts. Tour guide was not available for assistance...Dropped tour group off at hotels, landmarks, ect., and did not make himself available . He was an older guide (65?) and former bus driver who apparently has learned how to "play the system' and put in his time until retirement. He olny became hopsitable and showed concern the last two days of the tour, when it was near the time to recieve tips. Many people of the tour were disgusted and I hope they give fedback to their booking agents. I will never take another Trafalgar tour and will discourage any one I know of ever using the services of Trafalgar.
3 hotels in Scotland were shady and not up to our expectations. we survived
Personally, we prefer the relaxation of a cruise, making it unlikely we'll take another land tour. Specific complaints about the operator, though: 1. Failure to know nearest medical facilities at each stop. My husband needed to see a doctor, which we finally located 10 days into the trip. 2. Being dumped out at places just to kill time. 3. No hand sanitizer (to our knowledge) on the bus. Many got sick with colds(?). 4. Having tickets to the Edinburgh Tattoo was wonderful; however, seats were very high in the stands, making it difficult for some with limited mobility to navigate.
Another super trip. I have done several trips with Trafalgar and they have all been excellent.
I was not aware of the difficulties related to getting in and out of the showers. I would have requested handicap rooms if I had known. That was my only complaint. Everything else was great! The guide and driver were way above my expectations.
The first hotel in our itinerary (Trim castle hotel) was switched at last moment for an inferior one away from downtown Dublin, essentially confining us to 2 days of bland, activity devoid stay. When the Travel Director was asked to provide information on why it was switched, no answers were offered. Later we were told the reservation was made late and this was the only hotel left. That was completely inaccurate as I had booked the trip 9 months prior. There was too much time spent in the travelling bus, and less time in the sight seeing and less time to prepare for our nightly activities. Too much time spent on historical sites and less on more fun things like visiting markets, old towns squares.
We had a great time on this two week tour of Ireland and Scotland with Trafalgar. The tour exceeded our expectations in all categories. The tour director, local guides and our two bus drivers were all to notch. The hotels were all clean and comfortable and I would rate them between 3 and 5 stars. Some of the hotels in the small towns in the countryside of Ireland and Scotland were a little quirky but that just added to the fun of the overall experience. We made a lot of friends on this trip and look forward to traveling with Trafalgar again in the future.
The Trafalgar Tour Guide was beyond exceptional! She was fabulous as she often used that word to describe the scenery or the sites. Almost all hotels were very good except for the Isle of Skye...very poor beds! Other than that we have said that we will definitely use Trafalgar and Affordable Tours again. Thanks for everything!
For those who enjoy the motor coach as a means of touring around parts of Europe, this is a good itinerary that includes Northern Ireland, which I don't believe is common. The tour staff were wonderful and highly recommended. Some of the accommodations were quite rustic, so not up to what most would consider a "standard". However, they were located in remote areas and were the best available from what we could see. The itinerary is quite aggressive with a lot of time spent in the coach. In our case, this will probably be our last motor coach tour only because we find that we don't enjoy the extended travel time in the coach that much anymore. Our preferred mode of travel in Europe is now river ships.
Our experience was excellent in every respect.
Trafalgar Tours was excellent. Our Tour Director was THE BEST. He was most informative about the areas we visited. His knowledge of past history and present day issues was remarkable. He is to be commended. We also had great respect for our driver again very personable and very professional.

The tour director, Joel, was the best one we've ever had on a bus tour. He went out of his way to endure our trip was excellent. I discovered that I can't climb into tall bathtubs and Joel made see that our rooms had walk in showers, even trading his room for ours one time.
