We enjoyed our Irish Highlights tour. A the experiences and optional activities were so much fun. We met a lot of wonderful people.
This was my third trip booking through Affordable tours and Trafalgar. I cannot stress enough the level of professionalism, integrity, and value! I will absolutely be booking again in the future. Thank you for making my dream vacations come true!
Peter Flood was great!
Our Trafalgar Dublin Trip was everything we expected. Jill McDonnell made it very pleasant and informative. She was Friendly, Professional and always willing to do whatever was needed for the comfort of our group. Our Driver John was also excellent. I would not schedule a dinner in a castle the frist night since people are tired and perhaps jet lagged and not inclined to go out the first night. Just a suggestion. There were 11 in our family group and we all had a great experience.
Rooms were for the most part just ok. One hotel which we were switched to at the last minute was poor. Food was mediocre at best. Optional excursions offered were generally ok. Overall did see a lot of Ireland but too much time on the bus, group was too large to really get to know anyone, and our tour guide Allie was very good but at times gave us too much information.
This trip was amazing and I enjoyed every minute of it.
We traveled with Trafalgar, it was a professional well run tour. My only complaint is that they mentioned places we didn't actually stop and see. Upon looking back at the trip description we then noticed the language they used gave us the impression that we were going to see things, but the wording (upon closer inspection) seemed to indicate otherwise. Be sure to look VERY CAREFULLY at the list at the bottom of the trip description that specifically shows were you will actually be stopping and what tickets are included in the price. Words like "views of" specific sites means you drive by them, you don't stop and see them. Overall a great trip and we wouldn't let a little miscommunication keep us from using Trafalgar again.
The Irish Highlights Trafalgar Tour was very enjoyable...the tour director was very personable and knowledgeable, and had a great sense of humor. Ireland itself was still beautiful and extremely lush and green, even though it was winter time. I enjoyed the included highlights and the optional excursions, even though any future travelers on this tour during the winter months should definitely be aware that many tourist sites are closed, and that the week after Christmas is an almost unofficial week of vacation for many Irish citizens, so the optional excursions will be extremely limited and few in number. Waterford Glass Factory was not open, The Cliffs of Moher were extremely windy (so much so that it was surprising that it was even open and tourists allowed to go up on the promontory), and Blarney Castle's steps were wet and extremely slippery...and the day we were there it rained the duration of the time there.
It was a perfect vacation. Everything went smoothly. Terrific job by Trafalgar.
Irish Highlights was a good trip. However, last minute hotel accommodations being changed to different (less central) locations was an issue. There was a great start to the trip, with the end of it having a lot less things to do and to see. It was like they lost steam towards the end of the trip when it came to sightseeing and excursions.
This was a fun trip! Our tour director and driver were awesome. Some of the hotels were much older and therefore subpar. Luckily, the stays in those hotels were only 1 night each. It would have been more helpful to us to know the optional excursions and how much they would be ahead of the trip. Also we would have liked to know the timing of the itinerary before the trip. Overall though, we got to see and do a lot in a short amount of time. We enjoyed the 'hidden treasures' and the treats along the way.
One optional trip at Waterford did not specify that it was a WALKING trip. If I knew I did not sign up this trip. Hotels we stayed were OK.
Everything that was stated came true but it was even better then what I expected.
I had an incorrect expectation of this tour. I expected to actually stop and see all the attractions mentioned in the description, but some of them were merely pointed out as we drove by at 30 miles per hour and those we stopped at were just quick visits (maximum 1.5 hours). This is a quick tour of the southern Ireland points of interest.
The tour was too structured for my taste. We felt that we were working rather than on vacation. While the tour tried to cover as much Irish ground as possible, we would have been content with less mileage and more intensive coverage of monuments, museums, churches, etc. By the way, many of our co-travelers felt the extensive traveling was the way to go. Perhaps we have simply "aged"out of this type of structured tour (76 and 64). The other vacations that we have participated in are less stressful to us but again this is a personal preference. Lastly, and nothing to do with the tour, our experience with our airline was rather negative and sure to color any consideration of future trips requiring flight.
Most of the hotel rooms on this trip were in busy locations and windows could not be left open because of noise at all hours of the evening. And with no air conditioning, the rooms were warm with the windows closed.
Loved the experience and knowledge of our tour director!!
The tour guide for Irish Highlights was absolutley great. The Irish people were so very friendly and the scenery was breath taking. Also, the bus driver negotiated those very narrow irish roadways with unbelievable skill. My thanks to Trafalger Tours Company.
thank you It was my first tour and it was the best experence wonderful tour guide and driver where the best. I felt comfortable and safe at all times. Cannot wait to book my next tour. London, France and Italy.
