Question: what is the average number of travelers on an escorted trip; is that information included in the trip descriptions
Question: How many suitcases can I take with me on my trip?
Question: Is Airfare Included in the Price?
First let me say I don't like group tours...Too schedule bound but I didn't know the Balkans area so we decided to do a group tour. We are so happy we did!!! We got more than our money's worth. Gate 1 came through big-time. The hotels, included meals and excursions, exceeded our expectations. Our tour guide was exceptional. If you can take a Gate 1 Tour he is leading, do not hesitate to go with him. He always had our best interest at heart...squeezing out extra time at sights every time he could. He is a walking Wikipedia on Balkans history and culture. Very good natured and always has a smile to share. He grew up in Yugoslavia under Tito and is still living in his home country (now) Slovenia.
While Gate 1 is a budget tour operator the hotels used were the same ones used by higher cost tour operators. All hotels were first class and exceeded my expectations.
This was a fast paced trip to Croatia and Slovenia. Personally I did not encounter any problems with the accommodations or services. With one exception all included meals were great. The tour guide Alja could have been a bit more helpful at times.
The 11-day Affordable Croatia/Slovenia tour was a very good tour. Our tour guide Jelana, was exceptional - she had great knowledge of the history and culture of her country and her pride in showing off the beauties of her nation were apparent. We had an exceptional group of 24 travelers - this was a very nice number, allowing us to really get to know one another. The dates of our tour were prime in my opinion, though "off season" -- I would recommend this tour be done in late winter, very early spring, before the crowds hit the picturesque, but narrow streets of Croatian and Serbian cities (especially true in Dobrovnik). Wonderful experience.
Excallent job. Thank you again Dana
We had a very good tour. Our travel consultants were very polite and courteous, and helped us along the way with a few minor issues. Water being provided was very thoughtful and I loved that everyday. Airport transfer provided was also a great benefit to us as we had odd hour flight times. Our local guide in Venice was very helpful and guided us very well in spite of Gate1 deserting us in Venice. Wifi in Croatia was a good benefit and I hope other countries in Europe follow suit. However, there are 3 issues I would address. First, two of the five hotels, which were Hotel Adriatic and Hotel Park in Bled, did not have a kettle nor an iron in the room, and the room service was provided to us for the price we paid for the room. This is a basic service which should have been provided. Secondly, there was no Group photo taken at the end of the last day for keepsake memories. Also, alcohol was not provided on two of the three nights. On the last night, only one drink was provided and it should have been at least two per person. We had an extension with Venice and we were separated from the rest of the group, and more importantly, away from the city's center when we wanted to do the optional excursion with Gate1. These were a few major things that we would love to see the next time we book with Gate1.
Gate 1 really did a great job. Our guide and our driver were awesome. So informative and we really enjoyed the food, the hotels, etc. Everything exceeded our expectations and the bus was great. Our agent at affordable tours who helped us book it with Gate 1 was amazing. She even had pastries in our room at one of our hotels for my birthday.
In Zadar, the tour guide did not enter the city and we had to visit it on our own, with no map given. It was our expectation that the tour guide would provide us a walking tour, and visit (enter to) the Cathedral & St Donat church (as per the itinerary). In Porec, the tour guide did not enter or pay the entrance fees to the Basilica of Euphrasius (since it was mentioned in the itinerary, it was our expectation that the fees were included and he would provide an explanation of the site).
The accommodations were excellent. Rooms were clean and large enough for comfort. The breakfasts were nourishing and well-balanced with many choices.

Gate1 documentation that I received stated that I would have transfer included in my package but I had to pay for my transfer at the beginning and at the end of the tour. I was in shock because being in a foreign country without cellphone, communication. It was nerve wrecking experience.
