Bahamas Cruises Travel Tips

  • Paradise Island is the most popular place to visit because it's home to Atlantis, but make sure you get out and explore the rest of the Bahamas too when you visit. The Bahamas is more than just Atlantis!
  • Keep in mind that water sports here aren't regulated. So, be careful if someone comes up to you and offers you rentals, boats, etc. Think carefully before you purchase!
  • Yes, your resort will most likely have its own convenience store. However, don't purchase anything from these convenience stores if you want to save money. Instead, opt to visit one of the local grocery stores.
  • It is super easy to get a taxi in the Bahamas, but for safety reasons, make sure that you only get in one that is marked and is licensed. To be safe, consider asking your resort receptionist to order a taxi for you.

This is one of the world's oldest fossils!

The Nassau Straw Market is a huge flea market that sells everything from quaint local crafts made from straw to fun souvenirs that you'll want to take home. The market dates back to the 1940s when the locals frequented it. After World War II, tourists who visited the Bahamas learned about the market, and the local crafts that were sold there became very popular. There are a few different markets throughout the Bahamas, but none is as iconic as the Nassau Straw Market. Even if you don't plan to purchase anything, try to visit at least once, walk through the stalls, and even chat with a few vendors. This is a great way to mingle with locals.

Lord Dunmore made it back in 1793, and today it's one of the most historical places to visit on the island. It's located right on Bennet's Hill to overlook the harbor and the town down below. Though the fort is relatively small, it's still worth visiting to learn more about its history. You may here some locals refer to the fort as Viscount Fincastle, which is its other name.

Quick Facts

Compared to most other places, the Bahamas experience perfect weather every single month. It truly doesn't matter when you visit, because you will experience great temperatures and sunny days. However, certain parts of the year receive more rain and some months are also prone to hurricanes. The busiest time to visit the Bahamas is in the winter, and the least amount of people visit the Bahamas during the summer. The spring and fall seasons are considered to be the shoulder seasons for the Bahamas.

  • Spring and Fall - September to November and March to May - Shoulder Season

The shoulder seasons are arguably one of the best times to visit the Bahamas because not many people visit during this time, and the weather isn't as scorching as it is in the summer months. The spring months average 76°F, and the fall months average about the same.

  • Summer - June to August - Low Season

Summer is the low season for the Bahamas. Not many people visit during this time because the weather is warmer, averaging around 88°F as a high every day and 74°F as a low. Prices are at their most reasonable during these months because there aren't a lot of visitors. However, expect that all tourist attractions will still be open, even if there is a lack of visitors!

  • Winter - December to February - High Season

The winter months are the high season in the Bahamas because everyone loves to escape the cold weather that they might get elsewhere in North America. During the winter, the temperature averages around 70°F, making it the perfect winter getaway. Since it's the busiest time, prices are at their highest.
